I rec'd the following email recently. I reallly miss riding this awesome place (which is totally different from any of the other riding spots around), so come on out and help make the day a success to encourage them to open it more frequently (seems to be open only about once per year)! Just the scenery alone is worth it....from the top of the hills, you can see for miles and miles in every direction!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a reminder to all of you that we have scheduled a riding day, in Spicewood, on April 15th. We are opening gates at about 8 and will be there until about 3-4. We are asking $10 per rider per day and will have hookups available for $10 per unit for the day. If you will be needing hookups, please call or email us and let us know beforehand if at all possible. WE WILL BE ON VACATION THE 9TH THROUGH THE 14TH!! If there are any questions please call us on our cell phones. Our NEW numbers are as follows:

James: 512-581-8251
April: 512-581-8252

We are looking forward to seeing all of you again, and ask that you spread the word about this riding date. Also, there will not be any port-a-potties available, this time. We are sorry for any inconveineice this may cause. :0(

Looking forward to a day of fun in the sun!

IF IT IS RAINING, WE WILL PROBABLY CANCEL....WATCH FOR AN EMAILTHE MORNING OF THE EVENT SHOULD RAIN OR STORMS BE A POSSIBILITY.

Thank you all for your continued support....we love seeing everyone!

yep, it's a dirt bike ride. Looks like this is posted in the offroad section, so he has it in the right place.

I'm trying to find directions. Basically it is about 11 miles west on Highway 71 from RM 620 (Bee Caves area). I'll post directions as soon as I dig them up.

Thanks, Rusty! It's on Hwy 71, RH side of the freeway heading from Austin. Pass the road to Pace Bend Park, and it's prob. another 5 miles or so. The entrance should say "Two River Canyon" and be well-marked. (it was a concert venue, and has been used for Willie's 4th of July picnic).

Def. worth the drive, it's very different from anyplace else I've ridden in TX.

Okay, pulled this from a pdf doc.

From Austin
Hwy 71 for 22 miles to Two River Canyon OR take Mopac south to Southwest Parkway. Take Southwest Parkway to the end. Turn RIGHT onto Hwy 71 and head northwest for approximately 18 miles to Two River Canyon on right (approximately 4.25 miles from intersection at Hwy 2322 Pace
Bend Park Road).

From San Antonio:
Take 281 north to Hwy 71. Turn right and go 9 miles. Two River Canyon
entrance is on the left.

From Dallas Area:
Take I-35 south to Round Rock, exit at FM 620 (turn right), stay on FM 620
until you reach Hwy 71. At the intersection of 620 and Hwy 71, turn right on Hwy 71 going west approx. 14.25 miles to Two River Canyon on right (approximately 4.25 miles from intersection at Hwy 2322 Pace Bend Park Road).

From Houston Area:
Take I-10 to Lockhart exit, continue straight then turn right onto 29 through
San Marcos to 281. Take 281 north to Hwy 71. Turn right and go 9 miles. Two River Canyon entrance is on left.

---------------

I don't remember there being a sign, but it is a paved entrance with a big gate. It is uphill to get to the gate. It heading west on 71, it is past Paleface ranch and I remember there is a sign for that.

Thanks guys!
Is there a link or something for this thing? I might try to make it down there. We just got the wife a dirt machine so this could be interesting.

No link, just the email pasted in my first note from the owner. Feel free to call them w/ any questions.

If you'd like to see some pics of the property, go to texasoffroad.net, then look in the Photo albums. It'll be in the STORM photo album, you can find plenty of pics from the hare scramble race held there in '04.

Here's a picture of the property that I found online.

The property has a road running through it that is easy enough for anybody to ride. It used to have two trails, one of the kids that was easy enough to ride, but not completely lame...I mean tame. The other was the trail for the race. It has a couple of interesting sections, but not real long ones so if your wife is new to riding, you may want to ride her bike over the for her. And pre ride the loop to check it out.

It is rockier than most of the central texas riding areas. The two difficult sections I'm thinking of are a steep downhill with a little ledge, that at the bottom you go right back up a short distance. The other is a rocky hill climb of about 50 feet. Not super steep, but rocky enough that it can bounce you off your line and makes it interesting.

I don't know if I'm going or not. I wasn't planning on it since I rode last weekend, but all the things I thought I would have to do on saturday keep disapearing so maybe I'll ride.
