I will be there, tools, shims and all. Hopefully we won't need 3 of one size like the last time.

:tab Don't forget. You should not ride the bike there if you plan to do the valves! The engine should be cold. This usually means sitting overnight or the better part of a day. Sure wish I could join you guys as I need to do my valves, oil, spark plug, oil screen, install new bars, realign the front forks in the triple clamp and a few other odds and ends ;-) I guess it is time for a maint day down here... :ponder:

Hey Folks, Curtis here from the KLR650.net group. We're planning a Tech day at my place in Rhome Texas on the 29th of April, if you missed the Fort Worth Tech Day.
Your more than welcome to ride up and wrench or be taught how to wrench or wantch and hang out. We have a couple of do hickeys planned and some other minor mods.

I'm 28 miles north of Fort Worth about 10 miles South of Decatur.

Shoot me an E-Mail @ CurtisDrew@AOL.com of you want to come up and need directions.

We usually have one once a month up here in my shop with about 6 to 10 guys showing up.

I've got overhead hoist cranes, so no working on the floor here.

Plenty of room for everyone.

Thanks for hosting the tech day, it was (eventually) productive and as usual I learned a fair bit. Thanks to Jennifer for putting up with, and even feeding us despite our staying much longer than expected

We got my valve clearances adjusted, after a struggle with the math, and practice taking off and putting on cam caps.. ahem.. a few times. Also completed were a T-mod and little subframe upgrade.

Tom (Peppers) was having a little math trouble too, but that faded to insignificance when a cam cap locator sleeve went down the black hole. :eek2: Tom took it it pretty well for being really pissed at himself. We tried the magnet, coaxing, and unconfirmed reports of swearing.
Ed came to the rescue noting that a doohickey was planned, so why not take off the case cover to look for our little lost lamb? The case cover came off easily and there it was, one magnet touch away, and it was out! Tom lit up like a kid at Xmas getting just what he wanted. :sun: He and Ed polished the doo off the next day, I hear.

Curtis, thanks for the invite, maybe a joint Tech Day is in the offing.

any of these happening soon? I just got a KLR (Chris Jenning's to be exact) on trade for my DR350 and I need the Doohickey as well as some other expert KLR advice. Guess I'll keep an eye out for one on the boards here. Sunday's work best for me.

well, the reading i've done has been limited however,The position of those articles have been don't do it !!!for fear of losing reliability?that I don't want to do!!but this could be from people who wouldn't cross a low water crossing for fear of getting wet!If you get my drift.I would like a little more of a throttle responce when you turn it on,and a little throatier sound wouldn't be bad either.Have heard the big gun system and it isn't too loud and one other slip on muffler that the name escapes me at the moment that was nearly too loud. The breather housing I'm told can be modified with a bigger hole and re jet the carb.any help on this matter would be greatly apprecaited.
