I will be camping in Leakey this weekend on my new Husqvarna TE 610. I am probably going to be the only dual sport guy in our large group, so during the day on Saturday or Sunday I will be out exploring the area.
Anyone have any recommendations? The more dirt, the better, but I realize I will be riding plenty of pavement.
Anybody planning on being out in that area and want to meet up?
I will try and post pics later to show what I find.
Good riding this weekend, the weather is supposed to be great!

Go to the nearest county courthouse or public place that gives out maps and get a local county map. They have all the dirt roads. Most other maps are not reliable. I have picked them up at State Parks, Courthouses, and Chamber of Commerce. I add to my collection constantly.
Good Luck,
Bob
PS, dont miss the Lone Star M/C Musuem. Worth a stop

Killer bike. I want one. Did I see you on RR 620 last week? Close to the dam?

Thanks chopperbob, I live in Spicewood too, very close to the low water crossing on Bee Creek Road. I saw that you are a Sportster guy, I have been an officer in both local Buell clubs since their respective inceptions. Cool.
I have been focused on dual sporting and off road riding, since I got my Husqvarna. I still cruise the Buells, though, at least weekly.
fastmonstr, it could have been me. It looks like a big old dirtbike royal blue with bright yellow fenders. I have blue handguards on it and it sits pretty high up.
I haven't ridden it since May 13, as that is the day it sheared a woodruff key on the crank and the counterbalancer drive gear turned out of time. The parts I ordered to fix it should be here by Thursday or Friday at the latest, so I will be rolling again this weekend, barring any unfortunate events.
I used to have a Montesa cota, like you, it was the first year that they came with an aluminum swingarm, man it was cool.
I have years and years of road experience, but am not greatly experienced off road(on bikes anyway), but let me know if you know of any dual sport rides coming up, I am a quick learn.

That must have been you. There's not too many of those bike running around.
Woodruff Key? That sounds like a Yamaha problem. I hope you get it worked out.Warranty I assume?

Go to the nearest county courthouse or public place that gives out maps and get a local county map.
For all that might be interested you can download
county DOT road maps in DGN format from TNRIS.
You will need a fast internet connection
Type TNRIS in a google search and it will be the first hit.
Select the "digital data" button.
On the next screen type in the name on the county.
Once the county page comes up in the upper right corner
you can download the county road maps in dgn, dwg, and E00
format.
I suggest the dgn unless you have access to a dwg editor and
the E00 files are just silly large once unzipped.
Download the dgn viewer from
http://www.tatukgis.com
it's a 9.2mb download.
Good road data with ability to export to jpg and tiff.

Check out the road between 335 and 336, it starts as fm 3235 going west from 336 and ends up as another with about 10 miles of dirt before it gets to 335.
Great d/s road :sun:
