Well, on Saturday and Sunday the emails flew around as to who was in or out for the trip and it wasn't until early monday that the group was finalized. Fastmonstr and AustinTrophy drove up in new FJ truck. Very nice. I was there with my friend Brad who wasn't going to go, but woke up early in the morning and changed his mind. However, I wasn't sure whether my son was coming and when he didn't get himself up I assumed he wasn't. Turns out he slept through his alarm. Had I know I might have gotten him up. Oh well, it meant more seat time for Johann (AustinTrophy) on my son's bike. We also met up with another friend, Clayton, who we didn't expect see there that day. Irondawg, with wife and daughter showed up while we were still gearing up.

So after a quick explanation of the controls, AustinTrophy headed out to ride the road and the field while I got my gear on. At 6' 4" he made that CRF230 look awfully small, but it was easy for him to ride. The faster guys took off and I finished getting ready. After one dirt sample on the beginner's track, he was ready for the trail so off he and I went. For a new guy to dirt he did great. I saw one over the berm excusion where he only made 90 degrees of a 180 degree turn, but it was in an open field. I think he decided to see how soft the sand was in our second loop on a slightly tougher trail, but other than that he did great.

During our second loop, some weather moved in and we headed back to shelter. Back at the trucks, young Vanessa was having a blast standing in the rain splashing in the water that pooled on top of Irondawg gear box. We all headed for the building to get out of the downpour. Well, most of did. Turns out that Fastmonstr and Clayton had just headed out for a loop as the rain started. It rained for about 20 minutes as we stood under cover and when it stopped we decided that it was probably time to pack up. So we loaded the bikes and waited for Fastmonstr and Clayton...and waited. Finally the two of them rode up on piles of mud with blue and orange plastic showing through. Guess it got soft out there

Anyway, it was some good riding. Light breeze and clouds, then cooler as the storm moved in. Much better than the heat and humidity we expected. Time to place your bets on how long before AustinTrophy buys a dirt bike.

PS. I saw a plated XR400 on craiglist :rider:

And sorry, but nobody thought to bring a camera.

I really enjoyed that place. I am looking forward to going back. That would be a great place to camp and spend the weekend.

Thanks for the invite. Clayton and I rode well well together. We had a lot of fun in the rain.

I had a camera, but was too busy riding to get any pics.
