Howdy,

:tab So everyone wants a competent mechanic and service department at their local dealership. We've spent a lot of money on our babies and we don't want to hand them over to just any goofball with a wrench. I've reached the point where I've lost confidence in every dealership within 50 miles of my home.

:tab I've had parts not put back together properly, parts left off, bolts missing, broken trim clips in the fairings, someone else's tire mounted on my bike even though my tire was brand new, and so on and so on... :headbang:

:tab I've found a new private shop that I am going to try out soon for the valve inspection on the VFR's. If he turns out to be competent and does really good work, I am going to try to spend as much money as I can there to keep him in business!

:tab Got a favorite dealer/shop? Got one of those, "you won't believe this..." stories? Let us hear about them. Let's find the good places and spend our money there to reward them for their good service!

Regarding less than stellar dealers, I had my maintence record on the web, but hid it, after interpreting email from my dealer as threatening legal action for documenting my experiences.

Regarding great dealers, right now in Austin, my favorite m'cycle shop is Lone Star BMW (http://www.lonestarcycle.com/). They're so good I wanna buy a BMW or Triumph from 'em...

Your dealer is blowing smoke up your fanny. You can tell anyone you like about your experience at the dealership. Just stick to facts and events and leave out personal comments like, "he's an idiot", or "he's a liar and a thief." Actually retaining a lawyer and filing a suit against you would cost the dealership a large amount of money!! And even if they won, they'd still be stuck with having to pay their lawyers. To win a slander or lible suit it extremely difficult and often requires a showing of maliciousness on your part, a very difficult thing to do.

I have had SO many bad experiences over the years that I strongly avoid letting anyone work on my machines but ME.

That way, if my wheel comes off in a 70mph right-hand curve, I know exactly who to spank.

No one does as good a job as you would do.

May I give a recommendation? Motorcycles Unlimited. It's a private shop located on 1960, just west of I-45 in north Houston. I had my 15k valve adj done there on my VFR last year and other misc work too - he's great. I do all my business thru him and will refer anyone without hesitation. The owners name is Patrick Hart. Tell him I sent you. Any other questions, email me.

Where??? I've heard that Motorcycles Plus here in B/CS is supposed to be pretty decent, but as you know, I do my own wrenching so I have no first hand experience with them.

Motorcycles Unlimited on FM 1960 where Motorcycle Mania used to be located. The owner is Patrick. He comes highly recommended. I don't have his shop number handy at the moment, I'll try to remember to get it later and post it here.
