For the past two months my cell phone rings every day at about 11:00 am, 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The calls are from Washington State, Arizona, Washington DC and Oregon.

My phone is on the no call list but I'm getting these calls. I answered two of them and there is no one on the line.

My son says it is a computer calling random numbers looking for valid phone numbers. If you answer, your number goes into a database of valid numbers so that it can be sold to solicitors. I don't know if this is true but I don't know what is going on.

AT&T says I can block these calls but I must pay 5.00 per month to do this. I don't like that.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on and how to stop this without paying someone.

Thanks

I just got a call from a friend that her 2007 Subaru Forester AWD won't start. She's already tried jumping it from a donor vehicle and no-joy. So I'm thinking starter or battery ground/starter ground cable. Does that sound about right without seeing/hearing/looking at it?

Since this is an AWD vehicle with a standard tranny, and about 47k miles how do you safely tow these things? This little exercise is complicated in that it's in a parking garage that I can't drive my F250 in let alone get a flatbed in there. No trailers allowed either and there's huge round pillars just waiting to bite it's occupants so a tow dolly is probably out as well.

edit to add:
The owner said it made a 'noise' when she tried to start. That 'noise' is unknown at this point. (starter, solenoid, relay, clutch interlock?)

.

Every so often while at work, I get a smack on the back of my head for thinking logically. After all, don't you know that especially as a federal employee, using logic is a no-no?

Maybe this will help me remember in the future to not use logic. My thought would be, "If nobody reports this stolen, can I keep it and have some fun?" :shooter:

I now officially surrender the parts of my brain that ask financially responsible questions, look to talk in plain English, and try to figure out why we can't operate in a straight forward manner.

This past weekend I did my annual draining of my water heater. I turned off the water supply tithe water heater, opened the drain valve, and vented the pressure using the emergency relief valve on top.

Once it was drained, I closed the drain valve, turned the supply back on, and closed the emergency relief valve.

Ever since then, It hasn't worked properly. I've had hot water, but it hasn't been nearly as hot as before, and there hasn't been nearly as much of it.

What the heck is wrong with the thing? My theory (more of a wild guess, really) is that one of the heating elements has gone out.

Is there something else simpler that I'm missing, or could it be something much worse?

Thanks for your words of wisdom.

Morning Folks,
We had a thread-jacking discussion in the "Socialism" thread about using Biosolids/Human and Animal Manure on vegetables and root crops and some people seemed to understand that Hepatitis and other viruses could move through the plants, into the vegetables and root crops and infect people.
This is not the case. Plant virus's are NOT human virus's, and plants are not people. I know that seems like a rudimentary statement; but I remember hearing it in Botany and Agricultural science at SWT 15 years ago. It is a true statement to say that if biosolids/animal manure/treated human waste are used as a soil amendment/fertilizer and are NOT degraded or composted enough, then some microorganisms can affix on the EXTERIOR of the the vegetables and make people sick, if eaten raw.
Wash your vegetables thoroughly before eating them raw!, Consider steaming then lightly, as bacteria and virus bodies are destroyed at about 160 deg. F.
I found this excellent link to this: "Guidance for Industry: Guide to Minimize Microbial Food Safety Hazards for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables"

http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComp.../ucm064574.htm

To be clear, I am just trying to help. I hope that no one gets sick eating raw vegetables or root crops! :sun:
