Let me start by saying: WOW!

The day started off a little drizzly and cold (42F), but Jen (blazin' mama) and I were determined to go. 3 hearty souls got an earlier start from BCS and met up with us in Temple. After picking up one more rider on the edge of town, we were on our way. Once on 1602, we had some fun. This was Jen's first long ride and her first twisty road so I was watching her closely. She handled every turn, every bit of mud, and every bit of cow patties with skill! I am very proud of her!

We arrived in Hico at about 11:25, turned the corner and there it was: a parking lot already half full with bikes of all types. We parked and were met quickly by Squeaky with our nametags ready. Squeaky-great job on those! After visiting a few minutes and waiting the remaining groups made their arrival. Everyone had their own tale of woe from the weather, but they were happy to be there. In all, we had 74 folks show up with probably about 70 bikes in the parking lot.

My hat's off to the Koffee Kup staff! They got everyone in, seated, and served quickly and with a smile. They even put a welcome on their sign out front! The food was great and the pie was killer. Irene was ready with extra pie, so all those arm wrestling matches never had to take place. Irene did say that we put a dent in her stock of pies.

After everyone had a chance to visit the Hico International Motorcycle Show in the parking lot, the various groups began to break off for home or for more fun. Our group included some of the Houston folks, the BCS guys, and Snoopster for Huntsville. We ran through 1602 at a fun pace and in Temple we parted company.

My thanks to all that came for making this such a successful event! Let's start planning the next one! My apologies to anyone I didn't meet. I tried to bump into everyone at least once.

I'm sure that others will be posting lots of pics. Jen and I didn't have a digital camera, but there were plenty of others photo documenting this gathering.

Again: My Thanks.

A BIG thanks to:

* wczimmerman for coordinating this bit of fun. What a friendly guy!

* svinaustin for likewise coordinating the austin contingent, and vindicating txmedic vis a vis Taco Cabana... ;-)

* squeaky for the name tags

* tourmeister for making this nice web resource available.

* Pie.

* The road engineers of 219.

I found my heated gloves to be quite nice on the ride up and back. I added a rain jacket to my 4 layers to cut the wind on the way back, which oblierated the cold as a distraction, and allowed me to properly enjoy 219 along with leeroy.

After 219, we pretty much blitzed home via 6 and I-35. In Georgetown, I realized that taking 29 to 1660 would be MUCH more fun than striaight ol' 79 to Hutto, so leeroy and I enjoyed our last few minutes as much as the previous ones.

My piccies at smugmug. Please feel free to add your name/id via a comment if you see yourself. I have goldfish memory with names.

Respectfully submitted,

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!! I have never been this cold, ever. I am sitting here still wearing my jacket because I start to shiver when I take it off.

I had a great time seeing old faces, faces that are not old or new but just ones I haven't seen in a while and of course the new faces.

It was great riding with you Houston folks! Maybe we can get together and ride again on a warmer day. Paul, sorry for the mix up when I pulled off the freeway at 1488. I just thought you northsiders were going to take that home. When you all stayed on the freeway, Matt and I had to hammer it pretty good to catch back up.

wczimmerman, good ride and nice meeting you!

See yall soon,

Kelly

Amen to that. Without this site, this never would've happened.

Just rolled in..... My bike is showing 380 miles round trip (Tyler to Hico and back).

Thanks Zim... you did good. ;-)

Dave

I'll toss in my thanks to all the coordinators and those that endured the cold, wet, muddy roads to conquer the pie challenge today. I had a great time riding some of 219 myself, even if it was a little wet. It was very nice to meet everyone I shook hands with today.

Dave, glad to have met you, and glad you made it back to Tyler safe and sound to ride again another day.

I left the Koffee Kup and went across the street to get some gas (well really to use their facilities, but get some gas too). When I was ready to go, most everyone I knew from the Dallas area had already "booked". I took control of my destiny, took a quick look at my map, and said aah, this route looks good......and headed out of Hico on 6 down to Meridian, where I picked up 22 and intended on staying on it all the way to Hillsboro and then slab it down 35. Well, such as the best laid plans... Somehow I must have missed a turn leaving Meridian cause I ended up on some long-deserted stretch of tore up road that the county must have taken off their maps long ago. It was very a beautiful road for a couple of miles out of Meridian, and then it turned into a nightmare of torn up asphalt, gravel, and buzzard wasteland. I came up over a hill and just missed about 6 deer that had jumped across the road in front of me, jumped the fence and then staired at me like I had just tresspassed in their backyard and had no right to be there. I ended up in a small town of Morgan where I pulled up and took a second look at my map. I was able to somehow end up on 56 in Lakeside Village where I turned left and headed for 174, then right to 67 in Cleburne. I jumped on 35 at Alvarado, and headed north back to Denton. It was a great ride, met some great people, and had a great adventure.....all in one day. Thanks to all!

Great ride folks! A bit cold though.

There really is a Taco Cabana in Cedar Park! (couldn't resist)

Buck000 - great pics - change the date on the website to the 29th though!!

The picture of me looks like I'm choking on the pie - but it was worth it.

It will be 95+ before we know it. :angryfir:

:-D Thanks for putting this together, WCZIMMERMAN. Good roads, good food, good folks, and lousy weather.--3 out of 4 ain't bad. I hope to make the next one.

Doc I thought the weather was supposed to be this way with that many British bike in attendance you guys should have been right at home  I rode down 1602 with some of the Houston guys on the way back then headed west through Lometa and across 281 to 2333 and south cut back just north of Frederiksburg and then home. Good day and almost 500 miles by the end of the day

You totally misunderstood my accent. Where I come from it NEVER gets that cold. All you gotta worry about is the snakes and crocodiles.

What an excellent day. Great ride, great people and GREAT PIE.

Thanks Chris for getting this organized and keeping it easy.

Sorry to all those that had the adventure of following me up and back but I thought only a couple of wrong turns and one almost run in with Mr. LEO wasnt all that bad.

Great pics once again Paul, you need to think about starting a Pie Coffe Table book with all the shots you are taking.

Bud, man you certainly took the long way home. I was worried this evening when I got home and realized that, "Man, where was Bud, thoght he was coming back with us". It was nice meeting you, maybe we can get out and do a litte 473/474 run sometime.

Thanks again to Squeaky for the name tags, those were perfect, oh yeah the shove in the back :-D

Man this is starting to sound like one of those awards speaches. ANyway, great to see everyone from the DFW, Houston and CS/B crowds also.

A the biggest kuddos go the Scott (Tourmeister), because without him, most of us would have never met and yesterday would never have happened.

Hope to see ya'all sometime soon. More Pie.

Andy works for me, I got started and decided that I wasnt getting
any colder so I might as well keep riding, Scott would have been proud as I even ran 20 miles of muddy gravel road must have been dreaming
I was on one of all those GS's there today

Great ride.

Had a great time, yesterday. Would have posted sooner but I had to wait for my fingers to thaw out. Don't know about the rest of you, but I thought the ride home was a bit warmer. Might have just been the knowledge that sixty or so fellow lunatics were freezing, too. Misery loves company. This was my first TWT event, and I had a blast. Thanks for the pics, Paul. Rebecca, the name badges were a great idea. Chris, my hat's off to you for putting this together. When and where is the next pie run, Chris? We'll be there.

Kelly

Also a big WOW :-D

I had a great time. I ate two pieces, the chocolate and banana blueberry .

Thanks to Judd (kidder) for leading the DFW group from Venus to Hico. The route and pace was just right. Great job man !

The weather was cold but the smiles and people were warm and friendly. Seeing all the different rides and meeting the people made the ride worth having to clean the bike. :-P

Much thanks to Scott for encouraging the TWT members that want to get together to “Just Do It “ and the people will come. He is so right

Very impressive touch by Rebecca (Squeaky) with the name tags. That lady has class.

Thanks Paul (buck000) for the pics, always look forward to them.

Looking forward to more pie rides and meeting new friends in the future.

Wow, what a great day, despite the conditions! Truth be told, when I showed up at Taco Cabana, my plans were to meet the elusive Austin guys, then announce that I'm going back to my warm dry bed.... When I saw the turnout, I decided this was something I had to be a part of. Glad I did. It was nice to finally put some faces with names; what a great group of folks.

I just have one thought for all of you with electric clothing and heated anything. You all suck. I didn't completely warm up until this morning. I had a great time and it was fun to put faces with some of the names. Who knew that in that area that they farm AND ranch in the middle of the roadways? Death to weathermen! 60's for highs, 10% chance of precipitation.....a painful death to weathermen. Do I sound bitter? I'd turn around and do it again today. With more layers of clothes. :-D

Great time and an incredible turn out given the weather!

As one of the new worshipers to heated gear ... let me just say, I didn't think it was all that cold until I turned off my gloves/socks because I didn't think they were working.

Still ... 74 people  Wow! Great time, and I can't wait till the next one!!

Ride

657.5 miles round trip!
:chug:

Kelly, definite rain-check on the warm weather riding. I WAY underestimated the cold. Oh well, burned up the pie calories by shivering!!!

Thanks Sassy for being a great "escort".
You had the more comfortable motorcycle seat!!!

I had three "bullet holes" in my knee from road shrapnel.

Finally got warm this morning.

What an adventure!

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one that got cold - I was afraid to say anything. My legs were still cold to the touch 2 hours after I got home & put the heating pad on my back (story in the embarrassing moments thread). :-?

But I took a whole pecan pie home - snicker snicker :-P
Had some for breakfast this morning!

I got up in the morning and put on all of my new cold weather gear (waterproof and insulated oants, jacket, boots and gloves). I went to the garage and checked tire pressure. I opened the garage door to see a very wet road with the probability of it getting wetter. Due to the fact the the road was wet and I have new tires, I decided to skip this one. But, I do look forward to next one.
