Let me start by saying: WOW!
The day started off a little drizzly and cold (42F), but Jen (blazin' mama) and I were determined to go. 3 hearty souls got an earlier start from BCS and met up with us in Temple. After picking up one more rider on the edge of town, we were on our way. Once on 1602, we had some fun. This was Jen's first long ride and her first twisty road so I was watching her closely. She handled every turn, every bit of mud, and every bit of cow patties with skill! I am very proud of her!
We arrived in Hico at about 11:25, turned the corner and there it was: a parking lot already half full with bikes of all types. We parked and were met quickly by Squeaky with our nametags ready. Squeaky-great job on those! After visiting a few minutes and waiting the remaining groups made their arrival. Everyone had their own tale of woe from the weather, but they were happy to be there. In all, we had 74 folks show up with probably about 70 bikes in the parking lot.
My hat's off to the Koffee Kup staff! They got everyone in, seated, and served quickly and with a smile. They even put a welcome on their sign out front! The food was great and the pie was killer. Irene was ready with extra pie, so all those arm wrestling matches never had to take place. Irene did say that we put a dent in her stock of pies.
After everyone had a chance to visit the Hico International Motorcycle Show in the parking lot, the various groups began to break off for home or for more fun. Our group included some of the Houston folks, the BCS guys, and Snoopster for Huntsville. We ran through 1602 at a fun pace and in Temple we parted company.
My thanks to all that came for making this such a successful event! Let's start planning the next one! My apologies to anyone I didn't meet. I tried to bump into everyone at least once.
I'm sure that others will be posting lots of pics. Jen and I didn't have a digital camera, but there were plenty of others photo documenting this gathering.
Again: My Thanks.
