2012 July 4 pics...
Let's start off with a little primer that popped up in the news today providing some tricks for shooting fireworks.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/seven-...192205748.html I hope everyone has a safe holiday. Not sure I'll get out to shoot anything, but post what 'cha got! .

Re: 2012 July 4 pics...
I think I may have come away with 1 keeper from last night at the Freedom over Texas show. I only had to risk life and limb to get it.
Side note: I'm really getting frustrated not having a Tokina 11-16mm or a full frame camera. But, I'm going to have to deal with the D3100 as is until at least next year.

Had fun. The show was not as long as previous years, yet there was a very large turnout which was nice.

Re: 2012 July 4 pics...
I borrowed dad's Yamaha Zuma 50 and tried to find a good spot. I went down along White Oak and parked, walked down to the bayou and realized the view wasn't that great for shooting. I walked back and jumped back on the scooter. People were everywhere. I made my way closer in and ended up in a Theater District parking lot at Houston Ave. and Memorial Parkway. As I was trying to find a spot, the show started.
![]() I pulled the Zuma onto the sidewalk and parked it there. Memorial Parkway was all blocked off and in the middle of it was a line up of HPD on horses. I thought that would make for a cool picture, so I walked up behind them and set my tripod up. At first I thought I lost the part of the tripod that attaches to the camera. It was on the ground about 3 foot from me. Whew! I got it all together and started snapping. I put my camera at 100 ISO, f/13, and put the shutter speed on Bulb. All of my pictures were taken between 3 and 11 seconds. I was just experimenting. ![]() ![]() ![]() I creeped closer and closer behind the cops/horses. I did get a weird look from them every once in a while. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's my favorite of the night. ![]() After taking these, I backtracked up Memorial and tried to get onto higher ground. As soon as I set my tripod down, the show was over. From my first pic to my last was an 8 minute span. It felt like 2 minutes and I didn't even get a picture of just the fireworks. I put my gear away as quick as I could and ran back to the scooter. I took off and didn't get far before it was gridlock traffic. As I was stopped, a group of 6-8 sportbike guys came lane splitting through. I became their final member.

Re: 2012 July 4 pics...
Being a cop myself those pics almost brought a tear. Fantastic! I do like the last one too as the explosion happened just above their heads but I do prefer seeing all the horses from further away. Very good pics, if I do say so myself.

Re: 2012 July 4 pics...
Thank you!
I do regret not asking one of the officers if they would like me to send them a picture or two. I'm getting addicted to this night photography stuff.

Re: 2012 July 4 pics...
You can prolly send them to the HPD Mounted Patrol unit on disc. I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it.
