Re: Wildflowers 2012

This is the year you want to be out riding & photographing. Happens about every 4-5 years. This is one of them. I will be out next week headed to the Hill Country on my GS. A Texas flag emblem proudly waves on my wind-shield.

Re: Wildflowers 2012

Got out a bit today. Jacksboro highway had quite a few bluebonnets, and so did 51 between 199 and Decatur. 287 from Decatur back to Fort Worth didn't have many flowers.

I'll hazard a guess that it's a bluebonnet from above! Nice mini-lesson in perspective......

Re: Wildflowers 2012

I was at Crownridge Canyon Park off of Fort Billis Road, which is on the north side of San Antonio last week and there is a field there with one of the best displays of blue bonnets on the planet earth. Good hiking there too. Friedrich Park just down the road has even better hiking. Rudys BBQ is just a short ride down 10 from there.

Hey, Gravel Guy's right - it's a Bluebonnet. I was standing looking straight down on it.

The Willow City loop off of hwy 16 N. of Fredericksburg is really good. Drove it in a car a couple of days ago. It is really good. Take farm road 1323 off of 16 to Willow City. Turn left in Willow City and continue on the loop till it comes back to hwy 16 further to the north.

I rode the Willow City loop two years ago and the flowers were awesome! The north end is the best and ride north to Lllano for Q was good too. And no, I didn't go to Coopers.

you got a white one!!!

there used2was a gate keeper @ Inks Lake
St Pk who kept a small flower patch, right @ the gate house

he had light blue, dark blue, white/albino & pink ones

yes pink ones...

haven't seen but just a few pink ones, since

have, however, seen some blue ones on Cottonwood Pass, between Buena Vista & Taylor Lakes, way up high in Colorado

& as memory strikes me, they were about 2x as big as ours, here in Texas

GREAT SHOTS

KEEP 'EM COMING

Re: Wildflowers 2012

This year was miraculous compared to last year's dry offerings. I was blown away by the sheer variety.

One of my favorites taken near Llano this weekend while attending the National Rally of Texas:

We've traveled on to Oklahoma so I included some from Clayton State Lake Park too:

Re: Wildflowers 2012

The bluebonnets are still alive & well. I took these shots this morning, between Venus & Maypearl. Starting to see a few firewheels, but didn't manage to stop quickly enough to snap them.

Who knew that a barbed wire fence could keep the bluebonnets out & the other stuff in?
