XR650l jetting?
I was hoping someone here could help me figure out my jetting. I have done the daves mod on the carb, opened the air box( holes in the side cover) DG slip on pipe, k&n air filter, smog delete. I have been in the carb a few times got it close. I just put the pipe on today and it runs better on the mid to high rpm range, but it has a heck of a bog in it. in the carb I have a .022" shim on the needle a 158 main and a 55 pilot jet. With out the pipe I have tried different jets but go horrible gas milage. And I'm sure with the addition of the pipe it could use some bigger jets but I think if I can get the bog out this bike would be a rocket. I have a needle from a Dynojet stage one kit that is adjustable should I be using this and if so what slot on the needle should I use. Any help would be great thanks

![]() If you look close you can see the difference in the I.D. tapers. ![]() My DJ needle clip is set at the 3rd position. Sorry I can't be more help but I installed the kit when I bought the bike in '06 and can't remember all the details. The kit came with the purchase of the bike and the PO had never installed it so I threw it in that night. It works!

Re: XR650l jetting?
I just completed these mods about a month or so ago and I followed the directions to the letter and it came out great. The only difference that I can see is the after market pipe, I am still using the stock exhaust. Is the bog all the way thru the throttle action or just at first as you come off idle? If it is just off idle then I would suggest checking your mixture screw setting as this has greater effect on the low end until the main jet comes into play. I set mine at just a little over 2 1/4 turns which was actually pretty close to the stock setting. Also make sure you are getting a good seal on the rubber boot of your intake manifold at the carb a leak would cause bogging and bad performance. Hope you find your problem.

Re: XR650l jetting?
Thanks guys. I have been on the Internet most of the day searching for clues on how to get rid of the bog. I just ordered some different jets and a new mixture screw( mine broke the other day. Now I'm just waiting on parts.
Bobbilly- the bog is just off idle when I get my new mix screw that is where I will start. Rman- I have since pulled all the dj parts out of the carb. If I remember right the dj made mine run rich I think it came with a 165 main.

Re: XR650l jetting?
Ya going to put some miles on it tomorrow. Today was just the first short test run. When I get done I will Pull the plug and check the mpg's. I don't have the Dynojet stuff in any more but I still have it all. When i was going thru all my jets seeing what all I had the dj main was a 165. Do you happen to know what size your kit came with? And my dj kit didn't come with a pilot jet. Maybe I got a hacked kit. Just curious

Re: XR650l jetting?
Well I went for a pretty good ride today. The bike ran great. Put over 140 miles on it. When I got home I pulled the plug to see what it looked like. Just like I figured it was clean. I think I'm set. Woohoo
![]() Here is my plug
