HEY!?!?!?, when did you get moved to the mountains? And do you have tent space in your back yard?

After the last summer in Austin we decided to do it after years of thinking about it and waiting for the architecture job market to rebound from the crash in 2008. We came up here for vacation in September and I setup some interviews while up here and a job a couple of weeks later. I started October 31, stayed at a friends condo while he was working at the South Pole. My wife moved up here in February, we timed that around the time my friend came back from the pole, we figured that gave us time to get the packing/move done. Put the house on the market after a second move in March and sold the house in about a week on the market.

The back yard is not in very good shape (typical rental house), we are trying to get it sorted out as best we can. Since we have the cash from the house sale we have started looking for a place to buy, maybe an existing house or maybe some land to build something. There are just so many options up here. One lot we looked at was on Conifer Mountain at 9,100 ft, a 5 acre lot but not much level land to it other than the drive already graded in, the "back yard" goes up another 1,000 feet in elevation from the drive which is about 50-60 feet above the (paved) road.

Sounds like a four wheel drive sub-division
My Wife has deep roots here (getting her to move, not likely). I want a place in New Mexico at about 7 to 8 thousand feet so at the minimum I can get the heck out of the heat..
