Ditto here as well....I also met another TWTEX (Liteitup) user while in Ouray. I stayed at River's Edge for $61/per night. Comfy, quiet and powerful AC which was an added plus since it was in the mid 80s most of the days.

I could not keep count of all the Can-AM Spiders on the roads...they outnumbered every other type of bike!

Can't beat the Rivers Edge. Perfect rooms and location with more than fair price. Easy walk to the Outlaw or BonTon.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Roger and I are booked at the Hot Springs Inn. I think they only had one room left with two beds. I did not check on rooms with single beds. Price was $120+tax per night. A River's Edge cabin would be nice, but they were about $145+tax per night for one with two beds.

There have been a LOT of different plans discussed in this thread, but did anything definite ever form up as to who is going to be where and when? Is there anyone taking the lead in organizing routes for each day like we did back in 2010? I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect and what I might need to do before getting there.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Hey guys and gals. Dang, I don't frequent this forum enough. My wife and I are headed to Ouray (actually Ridgway state park) TOMORROW!!!! YES, I am excited. So far no fires in the area, but the sp called us tues and said they are going to stage 2 fire restrictions as of today. I can do without a campfire as long as we can ride. We are taking the RV/toy hauler and our d/s bikes. HOPING they don't close the national forest. I can and will report back on this thread(subscribing) as I wouldn't mind heading up there again in august.
Just saw this thread and skipped straight to end, but i will read back this morning and try to get the scoop. Sounds like end of august?

Nice, let us know. Hoping for some rain and cooler weather in CO to halt the flames. Make sure our spark arresters are installed.

Thats a very good reminder. I'll bet EVERY bike get the spark arrestor check if a Ranger is encountered. Bet they will be out in force everywhere.

Me, Stan Himes, Chad (oilfieldtrash) and 1 or 2 others are meeting at Tayor Park on 17th and 18th. Over to Ouray on Sunday, spend a couple days riding the passes, then somewhere else, maybe back to TP.

Although FJRRider failed to include this in his post, we would be very pleased to have any of you join us for the ride. My understanding is the Taylor Park area has a lot of single track that includes all levels of riding. I have ridden with many of you guys in past years on the jeep roads. And several have moved from KLR type bikes to more dirt oriented bikes. In case some of you are intimidated by the single track idea, you should not be. I believe you would do fine riding with us. Kind of similar to the Pole Creek ride we had last summer. There are some challenges but nothing we could not all handle. I was somewhat worried about all this the first time I went to Colorado- but it turned out to be just about the same as riding trails in Texas- only more scenic.

Anyway, hope some of you will be there.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Thanks Stan. I'll be there. TP on the 17 and 18th. I'll hunt y'all up -or if you see me driving in - my orange trailer turned white and grew a few feet but I'll still be in the same ole truck. Chad knows what to look for. Y'all staying at a motel/cabin there in TP?

Tourmeister...I'll be glad to lead a group through the Alpine Loop, Imogene or Black Bear if the numbers get too big for one trip or bike variations are too broad for one group to enjoy. I can't really help with the street rider crew but we'll have folks who can.

* Folks...if this is your first Ouray trip, don't get too hung up on trying to stay at one certain place with everybody ( I did this ). Ouray is pretty small and we've had folks scattered from one end of town to the other. Between noisy bikes and cell phones everybody manages to gather each morning and ride with whichever group they want to be part of. Everyone will know where the meetup spot is and the time things start happening. It's all part of the fun. No one gets left behind.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Jane and I are definitely in but wont be able to get to Ouray till Monday 8/20. I really wish my schedule would allow us to hit Taylor Park but its not in the cards.

I'm also happy to lead a ride or two... my favorite is to get a fairly early start on Black Bear to Telluride , have breakfast in Telluride then ride Imogene and finish off with Yankee Boy Basin. Makes for a perfect day of riding IMO.

The Alpine Loop is also loads of fun. I'm up for Pole Creek again as well. That was way fun.

RG... my wife is a non rider as well and in the past has been happy to just chill at the camp ground and read, I told her you wife is also a non rider so shes happy to hang out. I don't think I have your #... I'll PM you my cell.

In Telluride by breakfast! Either you ride WAY faster than me or you get up WAYYYY earlier, and very likely it is both I kind of always work on the schedule we had going out at BBRSP, on the bikes by 8:30-9:00am. Much earlier than that and my brain is still asleep while I'm lumbering around like some zombie that wandered off a movie set

has anyone taken a Yamaha TW200 to Ouray?
If I bring up a TW200 that's jetted for Houston, will I run into problems in the high altitude?

Scott, you sound very apprehensive, relax.

My route planning is made easy using the publication called Maps of Colorado by Mapsco, page 122-123. You can reduce the size of the paper map by using a good photocopier by shrinkng the size of it and printing on plastic acetate paper that is waterproof.

Be Safe,

IMO, a TW200 will do fine for riding the jeep roads. When I was there last summer I met a lady on a TW200- riding from Lake City to Ouray; loaded down with gear, on her way across the whole country. She was have no problems.

And YES- you will have major problems if you do not rejet your carburetor. I'm guessing your bike would not even run at 13,000' msl. And will not run good in Ouray (7500' msl +/-).

On my first trip to 'altitude' I called an area motorcycle shop and found a service guy I had some confidence in. He made excellent suggestions for jetting. It worked so well the only adjustment needed when I got there was to tweak the air screw.

That's an awesome bike and I've learned to avoid underestimating it with a skilled rider.

We had a fellow on an KDX250 one year and it worked just fine...except on the final approach to Imogene pass. I was on a terribly jetted KLR...it started wheezing pretty bad too. You just run out of air and horsepower that high. Maybe someone here can offer more relevant experience with the T-dub.
