How many miles have you ridden?

Texas is running an anti drinking and riding ad campaign that features high mileage riders. Riding experience was a question that had been on my mind for a while when I saw that, and it got me wondering how many miles the average enthusiast have ridden. Thought I'd do a totally unscientific poll.

I've ridden a fairly paltry 75K miles or so scattered over 30 years with the vast majority of that being in the last 4 years. How 'bout you?

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

I've been riding since I was 15 and I'm now 55 - so I've put quite a few miles on two wheels in the last 40 years. Unfortunately, I never bothered to track my mileage. My 2006 Hayabusa had just under 10k on it when I sold it, and the 2006 Ninja 650R had about 7k on it when I turned it over to Joyce, so there's 17k right there. Prior to buying the 650R I generally just rode a few miles a year. We really stepped up the game in 2007 and began doing long distance runs. Then family issues took over and we didn't ride at all for almost 3 years. I'd have to guess-timate my mileage over 40 years to be somewhere in the range of 40k...

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

This is an interesting question. I actually thought about this the other day when some friends asked me how many miles I had ridden in my current favorite helmet! Strange question, no? After thinking about it and doing some quick math, I am guessing about 500,000 total miles over the last 25 years. I hope to put in another half-million before I am finished.

BTW, that last time I drank and rode was 1993. I was drinking with some friends at the Basin campground in Big Bend National Park. We had a few, followed by a wheelie contest. I woke up the next morning and realized how monumentally stupid that was and promised myself I would never drink and ride again.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Street miles since turning 16, I am around 160k. It should be more than that, but I had a 5 year stretch in there where I didn't have a motorcycle. Not too shabby for 10 years of ridding.

Only about 40K since I started riding four years ago. Been fun. Still lots to learn though.

As to the drinking thing. I like my cocktails, but I'm not going to combine them with my riding. Usually I just like to keep moving, so no time to stop for that anyway.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

13 years at an average of 7K miles a year puts me right around 100K give or take. Sadly most of it now is commuting.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Not really sure how much, but just on the bikes I have right now I've got about 125K so I'd say over the years probably between 175K and 200K

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Since 1978...

1st bike - maybe 10,000
2nd bike - about 17,000
3rd bike - a little over 40,000
======================
Total = 67,000 sober miles

I've never had so much as a single beer and then rode the bike. I've been involved in one accident and it was my fault for hot-dogging it when I was too inexperienced to do so.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Fairly easy for me to keep track, I've only been riding for 5 years and only have 2 bikes.

No commuting.

Over 50,000 miles now.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

I'm pushing a half a million plus, but can't prove it. Sorry.

Started riding in '65 and have never been without a bike since.

My current BMW has 173k on it. The Honda Shadow in the garage has 30.
I had a ZX9 Ninja I used to sport tour on and it had 143k when it was stolen. My old Z-1 had 45k on it when I turned it into a drag bike and my old beloved Honda SL100 had 43k on it before I gave it away as a pit bike.

Those were my fav bikes... don't remember the other's mileages.

I'll bet that's not special for a 60+ year old touring rider that grew up with those disposable bikes of the 60s and 70s. After all, how many miles do you get to claim from riding one of those Briggs/Stratton powered mini-bikes when you were 12!

I'd bet we need to be thrown out of the average miles.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Like Stephen I am probably pushing half a million miles as well but can't prove it either.

I have been riding 45 years now. Started riding on one of the neighborhood kids minibikes when I was 5.

Bought my first bike, a Suzuki 50cc Scooter 37 years ago, and have never been bike less since then.

The combined mileage of the 3 bikes ( FJ1100, ZX11, ST1300) I have put the most mileage on totals over 250K.

My ST1300 is at roughly 98K and counting, and my total mileage on the bikes I currently own is roughly 170k.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

I've been riding off and on since 1979. As near as I can figure I've ridden somewhere between 250,000 and 300,000 miles over the years with 135,000 of that in the last 7 years.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

I've been thinking about this myself. I've been a licience ride since I was 15. I'm now 50. My slowest year was I little over 18,000 miles and my highest a little over 40,000 miles. I'm guessing over all the years I'm between 25,000 and 30,000 miles a year average. That would put me real close to a million miles totaled. But like someone else said I have no way to prove it.

I have ZERO accident due to drinking. All of mine have been due to stupidity and lack of skills.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Put 36k on an EX250 in 18 months a while back commuting 100 miles a day. That, plus the rest of my riding, I'd say probably about 50-60k over five years (including a two-year hiatus). I have a cage now too and it's made me weak and lazy

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Can't even guess how many miles I've ridden on my 8 bikes since 1970 when I started. I did ride a few miles drunk when in college. Woke up at home and people told me I had left the party on my motorcycle (a Yamaha 360 Enduro). The thought of riding any distance in that condition - after having seen how GIs kill themselves with Honda 750s and Kaw 500s - scared me near to death. Never again.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Sometime last year I passed a million street miles on bikes. I've ridden since 1966 without going longer than 3 months without a bike. About half of that was on 6 Hondas, another third was on 3 BMWs, and the rest scattered around on about 25 other bikes. I NEVER drink and ride, and that's been my own rule for me.

Re: How many miles have you ridden?

Dunno. I've been riding on the street for 23 years and probably average about 10k a year. Before that, we had small dirt bikes on the farm. I started riding those in grade school.
