Re: Semi-permanent SHNF thread

I forgotten how much whoops there are. Do you good riders out there able to skim over them? I just can't bring myself to go that fast with all the trees around.

I think a good rider on a KLR ought to be able to do SHNF quite easily.

Re: Semi-permanent SHNF thread

I take the whooops pretty slow. My brother flies over them. At 50 I would not want to eat a tree with my face. My brother is older then me and rides like a teenager. We rode the black trail on the east side this weekend. fun. but lots of face slappers. At times it was hard to see the trail in front of you. Could use a little trimming.

I very much want to be there to see someone 'SKIM" the tops of the whoops of the SHNF on a KLR. Really. I will pay admission. Riding the trails could certainly be done but the laws of physics just will make it less than pleasureable after a couple hours. Especially in the summer.

The key word was "GOOD" rider on a KLR. I would go further and say a REALLY good rider Gotdurt's friend Tony comes to mind... Or maybe Jqueen on his DR650. I would fall into the category of merely being a "good" rider, but those whoops never seem to end...

Thanks Scott. I think I'll be OK with a casual riding level.

There has been a lot of rain, and some more coming. Forest will be wet. No riding for me this weekend.

Re: Semi-permanent SHNF thread

We camped in the north part of the park. The camp was called the pond camp, or camp 5116 on the park map. It isn't a campground, it's a primitive site off Forest Service road 512.

I moved the ride report stuff out to its own thread in the "After the Ride" forum in the DS section and put a link at the end of the thread above to the report. If you put the report in the same thread as the event organizing stuff, it tends not to be seen by many other folks.

Yep all trails are currently closed due to rain. It is raining now and as Pops says more rain coming so for them to be open this weekend has no chance at all. Make other plans.

We got 2" yesterday and a bit more today. Amazingly, there is very little standing water. The ground is just sucking it up like crazy.
