Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
Alright, my wife and I just got back from Ridgway State Park and no fires. But it had rained for 3 straight days when we left last Friday.
So I am reading a lot about needing more hp and torque for some of the smaller d/s bikes out there. My wife would just like to say "tell them boys I did the Alpine Loop on my CRF230 with 17" Shinko 244's, so they can do it on anything". Pics below... Some water fall on alpine loop, and at the top of Engineer Pass 12,700ft. On a stock CRF230M. Ignore my 500 EXC in the background. That felt like cheating. A buddy of mine is looking at an 06 450EXC tomorrow and we are planning on joining you fellas end of August. More pics and some video to follow if yall are interested. And I can figure out how to upload video. ![]()

crappy iphone shot of double rainbow over camper after rain storm, but the light was really that surreal.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
Hey dirt guys- I'll see y'all on Monday evening (Aug 20), and expect you will already have some good stories... Rydah?!? I am riding the Sprint up from Clearlake to follow a pro bicycle race, and plan to ride from the Telluride stage finish to Ouray Monday evening, staying at the 'Chalet. I should also be able to see you off Tuesday morning, before heading to the next stage's start in Montrose.

I know somebody needs a dirt bike to ride while in CO.?
http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthre...27#post1030827 I'd really like to see it find a new home before the Aug. trip, it just wouldn't be right if it was sitting in my garage while I was in CO.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
I am hearing that the Cinnamon Pass route between Lake City and Animas Forks is closed because of a recent land slide. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
I'm interested is sharing a room. I sent a PM listing my habits that have annoyed roommates on previous rides. I will bring a WR250R and may bring a ST1300.

![]() I always bring ear plugs for sharing a room. Roger doesn't snore real loud and he's usually already awake when I start in the morning. Once you find a good roomie, it makes doing trips a lot easier

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
I might have exaggerated about my annoying habits a bit. Only my wife claims that I snore. I’ve never heard it myself. Dave Bell, Ruidoso Ron and I completed the CDR last year camping and hoteling along the way. There was one snorer in our group, but we never figured out who it was.
On a sad note –Ruidoso Ron lost his home in Alto NM last month during the Little Bear Fire. He has put many of us Two Wheeled Texans up in his home over the past few years. I have never understood why bad things happen to good people. Anyone want to share driving cost. I will truck from Abilene. I should also have access to a trailer if needed. |

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
Wow! That's a bad place to have closed up. Isn't Anamas kind of the hub of the wheel where a lot of the trails all come together? Going through Silverton to get to lunch at Poker Alice's is a long way around.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride
Mark (Subcomm) and I will be leaving OK on the 16th. We'll ride Taylor Park the 17th and 18th, then head to Ouray the evening of the 18th or the morning of the 19th. Ride around Ouray and whereever else until we decide to go home.
This trip kind of snuck up on me. I'm bringing my newish to me Kawasaki KLX 450 which is carbureted so looks like it's time to get jetting sorted out. Can't wait to have that extra bit of power to help out on those switchbacks. Looking forward to Pole Creek the most. It was an excellent ride and I highly recommend it. It's really remote with some amazing views. BTW, I booked at Hot Springs Inn 2 days ago, at that time they said they have 5 rooms left. |
