Parts for Erik's bike
When my wife saw the side cover with the "TT" logo on it, she asked if it was a Titty Twister bike. The name stuck in my mind.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I still have one more small little cover to do. I'll do it first thing Monday morning and I should be able to get it all back in the mail to you Monday by noon. Last edited by Ayers Garage; 07-07-2012 at 06:42 PM. |

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Those are beautiful, they actually look liquid, like they're wet.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Umm, darn, I just noticed, you removed the kick starter plug from the side case.... had not consider you doing that... I'll have to order a new one ... ****, that's another 10-14 working days now for the next OEM order to come in.
I should have considered that, or at least asked if it needed to come out.

It is rubber. I had to remove it. I was pretty careful with it though. I'd figure it's easily reusable. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341718448.814921.jpg

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
I need the size of the hole in the cover and depth of the lip it sits on so I can order materials to make the clutch cover plug, and get a rough part made up.
I'll do finial fitment when I get the cover back .. So measuring tape to inside mic will work.. Anyone with a cover off and can measure this.. Thank you in advance. Erik

Anything I order will not hit the handlers till later Monday morning anyway... Few feet of materiel and some new 80 Deg Diamond Inserts and we will have a new plug ready to go by the time the new gaskets and stainless Steel fasteners get here.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Erik,
You will likely want to order one of those little seals that goes inside of that cover also. It's quite small, about the size of a nickle and held in place by a retainer with one screw. I had to remove it too, and it looked kind of haggard before I messed with it. I had my wife text me this picture. The seal goes into the little hole right in the center of the picture. ![]() You had mentioned sending the two plugs on the stator cover. I do not have part number 22. Did you send it ? If so, I need to start digging through the ziplock bags again to find it.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Already did, thanks... I knew it was toast, so did not worry about it being heated in the oven, and as it was not an outside surface, removal for powder coating was not an issue..
Again, my failure to communicate .. sorry for the extra work.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Don't sweat the work Erik. I wanted this stuff perfect. Not close to perfect, but perfect. That's why I removed the studs temporarily also. When the heat hits the parts, oil and slime has a way of oozing out of places you'd never imagine otherwise. I've seen studs ooze out around the threads and ruin a coating job before. By removing everything, I could make sure that I had it totally clean and all of the blasting media removed. We don't want that stuff anywhere near engine internal pieces.

I have seen $30K engines destroyed by glass beads that came out of places in a head it should not have been possible to retain them. ![]() The fiber optic scope will get a work out when those covers are returned... as the right one has oil passages that need to be triple checked, flushed, checked again.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
So, parts picked up from the post office today.... and they look GREAT in person, as they did in the pictures
Installed the left cover with all new SS socket head cap crews and SS washers as i had a spare gasket on hand for that side. And of course, realized I made a mistake.... that brand new crank access plug I had powder coated....... got powder coated INSIDE the hex socket recess as well, so of course a drive bit will no longer fit. So I think I'll take a pen knife and scrape away the PC from inside the hex, then perhaps color it back in with a sharpie... Lesson learned, more forethought needs to go into planning each part to be coated.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
Use an SAE sized allen wrench. One will fit it fairly well and allow you to tighten it, no more torque than it requires. I used one of mine, I think 5/16 or 3/8 to screw it in that far.

Yup got that,, thats how I took it out ![]() But it'll bug me, I'll have to remember to grab an SAE tool where none should be needed, and no matter what, the PC is going to be damaged. This timing plugs are often damaged, even when installed with care.. This is the 3 or 4th on this motor. And i keep one on hand for the very reason that about 1/2 the DRZ's I work on, end up needing one.

Re: Parts for Erik's bike
To go with the great powder coat work done... I decided to add a bit of bling, to replace the rubber coated steel plug Kevin had to remove for the powder coating.
Cutting materiel Turning to size Polishing the exposed face Back in the lathe to part the almost finished plug from the rest of the materiel. And pressed in to place in the beautifully high gloss Black powder coated cover..
