Re: XR 650L question's
We put the engine back in last weekend. Got everything hooked back up during the week. Installed the new 41 MM Mikuni TM38-85 flat sided carb, new Moose handle bars, new throttle tube and cable and new grips. Primed the oil pump. I primed it prior to installation but when I turned the fly wheel to top dead center for valve adjustment, the pump unprimed itself. We had no oil at the upper banjo bolt while turning the bike over. We used a large syringe and injected oil through the 10MM check port until oil was at the bottom of the plug hole. We used a low 20psi air compression at the oil filler neck to help prime the pump while turning the bike over without the spark plug in. Oil shot out the upper banjo bolt after a few seconds. We turned it over without air compression oil continued to shoot out from the banjo bolt. The bike started up fairly easy. Ran well but valve clearance needed to be re-adjusted.

The FCR is MUCH better than the Edelbrock I had on there. Power is much smoother when rolling on the throttle and just as strong (if not more). The Edelbrock doesn't have separate pilot and main jets which makes it impossible to tune for both top end and slower speeds - you can max out one or the other or compromise both. Either the Eddy or the FCR are much better than the stock carb, even with Dave's mods. I don't know what XR's Only wants for their carb, but I paid $210 for the 450R carb, throttle, and cables on eBay. The carb I got was clean and barely used. Maybe they've gotten better, but I had such bad service from XR's Only back in 2006, I said I'd never do business with them again. It took 3 months, a dozen emails, and at least 7 phone calls to get an order filled and they never got it right.

Re: XR 650L question's
I'm not exactly sure what FDM paid for the TM38-85 carb but I think it was close to $500. New throttle tube and cable included. It's a single cable throttle design using a return spring located within the carb. Putting the new cable on was a bit tricky (having to keep the spring compressed while attaching the end to the needle's base). I feel the spring when twisting through the throttle a bit but that should break in. As for throttle response, FDM could tell you more after a short break in period.

Re: XR 650L question's
I have also heard some complaints about XR's Only, They treated me good so far I received the carb in 4 days and it did bolt right up to the L.
I decided to go with a non pumper carb because of all the tuning problems I read about the pumpers, this is the XR 600r flatslide carb I paid $250.00 for it (The pumper carb was $450.00) so far it seems to have smooth throttle control and the bike purrs right along at a idle, I will know more once I get it on the road, we are now waiting on some thrust washers to come in for the starter clutch, seems someone had been in there before and came up with some extra parts cause they sure didn’t put them back in there place.

Re: XR 650L question's
Viper.. I believe I have the same carb on my 94. It seems to be a loose fit between the airbox and the manifold and I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do some field modifications to make it a snug fit. Any such issues?
