Big stack of 90's Car and Driver's
I was about to put these in the recycling bin, but I thought I'd see if anyone would be interested.
I've got about 60 Car and Driver magazines from 1992 to 2000 or so. From the good old days with Brock Yates and Patrick Bedard. Wanna get a preview of the Dodge Daytona IROC? How about the Olds Cutlass convertible or the Honda del Sol? Here's your chance. I'll probably keep them until my next trash pickup which is next Friday.

Those were definitely the good old days.
Cannonball Baker Sea To Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. ![]() C&D really went downhill after Brock and the other old school writers left the magazine. Gordon Baxter was another of the greats. David E Davis was ok but not great. I subscribed from 1972 until about 2010 but just didn't like the direction the magazine had taken.

I still take it, but you're right, it's not as fun as it used to be. I think I've subscribed to it since the mid 80s. Not sure why I kept all these.

Re: Big stack of 90's Car and Driver's
Letters to the Editor and the replies from "Ed." were hilarious up till probably the 90's. Whoever took it over just didn't have the same level of creative humor and it became much more of a "Bite Me" response to the reader.

Wasn't '92 way after yates left?
I quit reading it after Jean Lindamood and that crew left. They could entertain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk when i should have been doing something useful

Re: Big stack of 90's Car and Driver's
Hah, I remember that particular race. Brock Yates and somebody - Dan Gurney? - won it in a Challenger. I loved that magazine in the 70s & 80s. It isn't as interesting to read anymore.

Actually, that was the second year. And I don't think they won. The first year, they won it in a ferrari
You should read yates' book on the cannonball. Are we still doing the kindle loan thing or did that die out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk when i should have been doing something useful

Re: Big stack of 90's Car and Driver's
You're right - when I think back on it now, I believe that year was won by a married couple - John & Vicki somebody - who were a professional rally race team and drove a 911 for the event. As for the Ferrari win, I've read Yates' description of hiding behind a gas station from unamused local policemen.
Actually, my favorite Cannonball story (the real one, not the movie) was written by C&D editor of the early 70s, William Jeanes. There were a number oddball entries that year, including 2 guys in a '53 Studebaker and Jeanes and several friends - including a French chef - in a Winnebago Chief motor home. They careened across the country, eating souffles the whole time. And they finished in next-to-last place. In his article about the race, Jeanes quipped that "Our strategy was based upon staying ahead of the Studebaker. How were we supposed to know they'd finish last?" The Jeanes-Yates-Bedard-Shepard years were the best, certainly the most entertaining, at C&D.
