Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

I put in for the day off and to get off work early the night before (I work 3p-1a). If I get it then we can carpool from Austin. I have a 4 door Chevy truck, just need to vacuum out some dog hair from the pups...

I have added more details and updated the attendee list. Make sure I have it right, because I often get it wrong. And there are plenty who would agree with that ...

I think most of us attending from South Houston (Clear Lake) chapter are planning on it.

And I am looking forward to meeting other TWT folks from outside our little world. One of these days, I was thinking of trying to make some of the other local meet ups. There has got to be better folks out there than the ones I hang around with ... just kidding Everyone I know in the Clear Lake chapter are pretty good folk.

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

The shortest, most direct route from my place is 161 miles according to Google Maps. Do I want to ride that in 100+ degree weather? Maybe. Maybe not. Of course it won't be 100 degrees all day but still, it's July and it's Texas. I may be a wuss that day and drive in an air conditioned, nice stereo equipped vehicle.

I hear ya Dave. I am heading to South America in the fall and need to get acclimated to the heat and humidity. But look at it this way, the weather just may be very cool and wet

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

Thanks, mang. Depending on if Melody wants to ride we may take the motorcycle but will figure that out soon so's the carpoolers from Austin can plan to either have us along or not. 42mpg (7.6 gallons used) on the motorcycle or 17-18mpg (17.8 gallons used) in the truck. If it rains it'll definitely be in a vehicle.

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

Looks like may be four or five of us are meeting for breakfast at Kelley's in Alvin. I plan to get there around 7:00a, kickstands up at 8:00a to get to the STNP at 9:45a.

I don't know what's going on with Google and the links on the board, but I can see the location with the information about Kelley's when i go to Google, but when it is embedded here it can't find Kelley's so I just included it as an address.

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

I just googled directions to Kelley's in Alvin. 3 hours from my place and you guys wanna meet at 7am? It takes the same amount of time to get to the nuke plant so will have to skip breakfast in Alvin. Maybe the guys in Austin will want to meet and do breakfast somewhere.

Only 5 days away so we (Austin group) are going to have to figure sumpun out soon. On Tuesday no forecast for rain in Austin but a 40% chance in Bay City. Also in the 90's with a heat index about 100.

Yup, I figured the only folks that would meet in Alvin for breakfast would be from the Clear Lake area. It would make sense if you guys were riding down together from Austin to find a muster point for breakfast. We will see you at 9:45a at the plant. If you get there before us, don't push the self destruct button.

Thanks for the warning, I guess we will just turn around if we see a mushroom cloud on the horizon. :

How about meeting at Maxine's in Bastrop at 7am. It's right around 120 miles to get to the STNP so we should leave before 8:00 to make it by 9:45.

Unfortunately I'll have to skip lunch and get back to Austin.

Bring some walking around shoes.

Here's a suggested route.

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

Looks like it will be pretty good weather Tuesday near the STNP. Isolated chance of rain, high of 89 low of 80. Let's ride!

Re: South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Tour

Yeah, still a 30% chance of rain. Melody says it's up to me whether we take the bike or cage it. I'll make that determination I guess Monday evening.
