Honda NT700V, if you canfind one. Honda of Houston has one, I saw it last Friday. Several memebers at NT-Owners.org have logged 1,000+ mile days. I have 29,000 miles in 18 months on mine. Good traveller, good commuter.

SO FAR, I CAN'T FAULT MY WEE

@ 260# + gear, she cruises well on the interstate w/ all my camping stuff, on a 2 week trip from denton to key west & back

into the wind, off the wind & across the wind, at speeds up into the mid 70's

38 - 62 mpg

rain, shine, day & night

interstates, 2 lanes, gravel, dirt & grassy mississippi levees

i'm sure you'll settle on what's best for you and your pocketbook, that's just my 2˘ worth

Thanks for all the info!!! As much as I'd love to have a C14 or my friends Busa, it's just not in the cards at the moment but the Wee gets lots of praise from different sources and is probably the most practical bike for me...

Re: Bike shopping...what do I want

I'm in the same boat as the OP, riding a KLR 650 strictly as a street bike. I had visions of the KLR as a dirt bike with lights and worldwide adventures, but I mostly commute and 100-200 mile day rides. I want more street/touring manners, so I'm currently looking at the Kawasaki Versys 650. I was previously looking at Triumph Scrambler, Bonneville or Tiger 1050. My ideal is a good commuter; touring from DFW to Galveston, Hill Country or New Mexico; & good on pavement, dirt or gravel roads. Do any TWT members have suggestions? Any DFW Versys owners like to meet me to talk about the Versys?

My Wife has one as does DaveAlvarado. I'm sure that either one of them would be more than happy to chat with you either at a Tuesday meet and greet or Friday night ice cream.

Yep, I'd be glad to talk about the V. Mine is laid up at the moment with a mysteriously leaky rear tire, but when I get that sorted I'd be glad to show and tell. Mine is modded for street touring.

Dave, if you want to bring it over one night I'm sure we can find the leak. If we time it right, Jeephoto could come over at the same time and talk to you and Rachel about the greatness of the Versys.

Re: Bike shopping...what do I want

That sounds like a really good plan, actually. It might be as simple as a leak on one spot of the bead. I looked for a puncture but no luck, haven't bothered to do the soapy water thing yet since I've got the new Speed Triple to play with.

It'll hold air long enough to ride over for sure.

I would be glad to meet up with y'all; just let me know when & where?

Maybe I'll see you at the Tarrant M&G Tuesday night?

Re: Bike shopping...what do I want

Has anyone mentioned one of the F800 bikes from BMW (F800GS, R, or RT)? A little pricey new, but I bet you could find a good deal on a slightly used one somewhere.

Apparently I need to keep it under 1000cc or my insurance goes out the roof (for me anyway).

A couple that I've tossed around in my brain (insurance premiums excluded) are the Wee, Vee, FZ1, used busa and a C14

Suggestions?

Dave, when would be good for you? Saturday I have a plans, but Sunday I'm wide open. And most nights this week I am open minus Wednesday evening.

Re: Bike shopping...what do I want

Sunday would work for me too.

I'm probably not going to make the Tarrant Co meet tonight, but I'll probably be at ice cream on Friday.
