Re: Sad Update
Glad to hear you are Ok. To say that was close is an understatement! Broadside into a truck, a tenth of a second either way could have changed the outcome dramatically. Hope you find something you will love just as much as your Bandit or like FF said, rebuild it, if possible. Good luck in the future with your riding and keep the protective equipment on. Advice I was once givin' "When you are out there, they are ALL out to get you." Sam

Re: Sad Update
Appreciate the well wishes everyone. The bike search continues........... My heart has fallen in love with an '06 BMW K1200r. Wicked fast, and looks quirky enough to make it a very unique bike on the road. My head keeps telling me to ride a '10 Honda VFR1200F that is available right now. I want the BMW, but the lack of decent wind protection, plus the fears of maintenance costs are what keeps driving me back to the Honda.
A 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 w/ABS was very high on my list (perhaps foolishly) until I did an online quote with my insurance company. My insurance would go from $195 annually (for the '08 Bandit) to over $1400 for the Kawasaki. Needless to say, that knocked that bike off the list in 2 seconds flat. By the way, it is now official. My bike was totaled by the insurance company. Repair estimates shot up to $8000 and that became the final nail in the coffin.

Re: Sad Update
Are you kidding? $1400 a year for bike insurance???? That settles it; I'm keeping the VStrom forever.

Re: Sad Update
Yeah, I know that sounds crazy. I re-ran the estimate multiple times and it still came back at over $1400. I have checked numerous other models and all the rest came back at between $250 and $450 per year. I'm not sure why the Ninja 1000 quote was so out of whack.

Re: Sad Update
How old are you? I recall having those kinds of insurance payments at one point in time.

That should answer your own question. Liter bikes already get slammed. Add in sports bike and they see $$$.

Sport tour bikes don't get slammed. Concours isn't that expensive. Sport bikes are high theft profile along with everything else.

Re: Sad Update
48 years old with a clean driving record. Last speeding ticket was in a car and it was probably in 2003. My '08 Bandit was $195 annually, so either the Ninja 1000 is considered a high risk bike, or the Progressive Motorcycle Insurance site is having some major issues.

Re: Sad Update
Wow, bet you could go with the Z1000 and get the insurance cheap. After all, it's a naked bike, not a sport bike. Or an FZ1.

Re: Sad Update
Bandits are cheap on insurance but for me I was paying roughly $350 full coverage then moved to the capital of my state and it doubled gotta love that! It finally went down to about $460 this year but yeah higher chance of being stolen = insurance up! You'd think they ask if I had aftermarket hard bags and such which makes the bike heavier then it already is and thus harder to steal!

Re: Sad Update
I bought my first bike about 2 weeks ago and when i went to go get insurance, i was quoted about $1600/year.(full coverage)
I am 30 yrs old, no accidents, no tickets in a long time. Last one was about a year ago and that was first in a while. I ended up going with liability(Tx State Min coverage) for now... I think it came out to $124/year. No way am i paying $1600 right now in my current financial situation....My car only costs $100/month.

Re: Sad Update
It amazes me how Insurance companies figure bike insurance out. My '07 DL1000 was about 40 bucks a year cheaper than my '07 Bandit 1250S. Both about the same cost and HP. But the name does it.
