Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Steve, does this mean you will be sleeping in a tent this Christmas in Big Bend?

No, on trips a week or longer, I will be taking my toy hauler. I like to take 2 bikes to BB. Now that I have the WR250, I definitely will have 2 bikes out there. You plan on being there again this year. I always look forward to BB around Xmas.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Yep, hope to make again this year. I was trying to get my po boy toyhauler done for last years trip but my little git-off halted progress so I had to sleep in the tent last year. Pretty much froze until Hardy offered me use of an electric blanket.

I didn't see one of those on anyone's list.

I've come to the conclusion that Hardy is like the Swiss army knife of camping. He keeps pulling out things that make the minimalist camper go huh? Lol. Its a good thing though.

Especially when he starts pull'n out some of the goodies Hardy Wife packed in his kit. Some of that caned fruit sure goes good on a muffin toasted over a camp heater on a cold crisp winter morning.

But he does keep a tight reign on his bag of kettle fried jalapeno chips though.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Hardy and I both carry 12v fans in the summer, a little ceramic heater and a electric blanket in the winter. We also use a cot and have a Pico chair in our tents. The key to all of this is pulling a Bushtec trailer behind our bikes. When you get our age, instead of paying for a motel, you bring the comforts of a motel with you and save all that money for more days of camping. Both my Wee and FJR are set up to pull my trailer. I also have a whole different set up for when I minimalist camp off my WR250. To me, it is not how you camp, but that you are camping and enjoying the company of friends.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Now, that last half of Steve's sentance says it all. And ole buddy Tom, tell me your coming to one of the campouts and I will bring half a dozen bags of those "spicy" chips if you'll play a couple of songs for us. Good times with good friends says it all. And why is it that everytime I go camping, I gain a couple of pounds? There's got to be a reason. Hope to see you there. Hardy

How are y'all powering these? Batteries or y'all only getting pads with plugs?

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

It's been awhile since I've motor camped. I think it was with BeemerBob and his brother in '09. That's when my body told me I was older then I thought.

I'll have to try it again soon. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

I checked this morning and there are 17 tent sites left at Guadalupe River State Park for Sept. 14 & 15. They are water only sites. This is one of the parks along with Inks and Garner that fill up pretty quick.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Sounds like fun. I'm looking at getting back into tent camping after several years. I'm semi retired and am looking to cut the cost of multi day m/c road trips. Most of my camping trips will probably be solo but may try to get the wife interested if we can figure out how to pack everything for 2

I just reserved a tent site for 9/14 and 9/15.

Cheers
Howard

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Well darn!!!! I just realized I had already comitted to a ride to Medicine Park, OK that weekend so I'll have to cancel the camp site for that weekend. Looks like there's still 17 sites with water available.....

This sounds like fun. I have not camped since the 70's, but have been buying some gear. I need to check it out soon and make sure I have what I need.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Let's add to the camping list: Tent, ground cloth, sleeping pad of some type, sleeping bag.
Some people like small fan. If you plan on cooking, camp stove & fuel and small cooking kit pots and pans. Then if you do that then you need, dishsoap & pad clean your dirty pots, ect. Dishtowel. If you cook you will need knife, fork, spoons and spatchla so on..
Main thing is the food, what do you want to fix? Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Salt & pepper ..ect. Go by a good back packing store, get light stuff and think small.
You will need to carry Motorcycle stuff, Personal Stuff soap, tooth brush, Clothing. Camping, Cooking and Food Stuff and list will go on... Go to Motorcycle Checklist on the webb. It has good list to work with, but you don't need it all. It fun camp out in your motorcycle I enjoy it to no end! That my thought on things, let's camp and Ride.

Less than a month away. Hardy, Donnie, Ron and I are in Gunnison Co. enjoying some cool weather camping, dual sport riding, whitewater rafting and plan on doing some zip lining. Life is good.
