LOL. My cooking skills are inversely proportional to RG's, so you might want to eat BEFORE coming over.

I can't remember the name of the other hotel where a bunch of folks are staying. I think it is back in town a bit or on the South end of town.
There are at least four of us that are staying at the Ouray Victorian Inn:

http://victorianinnouray.com/

It is located on the very south end of town, so would be a good gathering spot each morning, as we exit the south side to get to the passes. Can't remember any gas on that end of town though, so might want to grab some first.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Gas was on the North end of town next to the Timber Ridge place where we stayed in 2010. There was a campground right there as well. Across the street from the gas station was a large dirt/gravel area off the road under the trees where everyone met. Shaded, easy for anyone riding by to see, close to gas so no one got left while gassing up. Town is so small that getting from one end to other only takes a minute, so that might make a good general meeting area that is easy for everyone to find, then people can group up and go from there.... Or not

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Looks like Roger and I will be making a delayed departure, hopefully getting away Saturday and arriving Sunday. My Dad went into the ER this morning and at this point I really have no idea what kind of condition he will be in when he gets home (hopefully Friday afternoon some time). We had planned on leaving Friday late afternoon, but with Dad's unknown condition that just isn't gonna happen. I work with Dad and if he is not able to work while I am gone, I can't go. So there is an outside chance we might not make it to Colorado at all.

Our fall back plan is to head to Cloudcroft, NM. It's only 15 hours drive versus about 22 hours. So losing a day on the front end would not be as big a deal. The riding is not the same, but it is still really good. It would definitely be a cheaper trip given the cost of diesel!

I'll know more tomorrow.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

First, our prayers are with your Dad. Hope it turns out to be trivial.

Made it to Taylor Lake park this afternoon after overnighting in Raton NM. Cold front blew through about 2 this morning and rocked the trailer pretty good till daylight. Smooth sailing from there to Salida Co. Bad two car wreck on this dinky mountain road had traffic stopped for about an hour there. Good chance to visit with some random folks though (no bars nearby).

Dragging the trailer through Monarch pass was no fun. Made it here about 5 this PM. Truly beautiful country. Camped beside the Taylor river this evening. Seen several DS bikes cruze by. See y'all shortly.

Roger and I are out.

Dad is not doing better and they are planning to keep him through the weekend, possibly until Tuesday.

I hope everyone has a good trip. Ride hard but be safe!

For next year (<G>); any advice on the better route to pull a 35 foot camper, Silverton (up 550) or 50 (down from Montrose)?

You know... Graeme and I are heading up there the week of labor day. Just come up in a couple weeks and you will still get in some riding.
