TxTag for Bikes

Does anyone here have a TxTag on their bike? I don't have to ride the toll roads often, but when I do it's a pain to remove gloves, get money out of my pocket, put on gloves, etc.

I know that a bike can't use the windshield tag. How does the motorcycle tag attach to the bike? Can it be mounted under the seat? I'm concerned that if it's mounted where it's visible it could be stolen (plus I don't want an ugly tag mounted on my bike!).

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,
CBR

Re: TxTag for Bikes

I don't have toll tag, but a rider on the beemer forum said he puts some cahs (coin and paper) in a baggie that he puts in his tank bag and hands the baggie to the toll agent who takes what's need out of it, zips it close, and hands it back. He said it's a lot less hassle than taking his gloves off and fishing for change.

They have a special one for motorcycles, I had to go to the TxTag store to pick it up because they sent me the windshield sticker and put down a deposit for it. It is about the size of a pack of cards. I have mine velcro'd inside the lid of my topcase and it works, some have put it under the seat.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

I keep my tag in my jacket pocket.
Have never been able to determine if they are able to read the tag, of if they're just running my plate and matching that to my account.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

The original EZ Tag for harris county was a little smaller than a deck of cards. I have mine placed in the top area of my nose cowling, hidden from view. It works fine from there.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

If the TxTag is like the NTTA (north Texas) tag, it is 20% cheaper to use the tag than to pay at the booth...

I have mine (small deck of cards size) under the seat near the rear cowling and it works fine.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll find a spot for one under my seat or in the fairing somewhere.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

Yep, mine is in the tank bag map pocket. I just keep a map in there so it isn't visible. Occasionally it doesn't get read, but they catch the plate and charge me like it was read.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

whether you have it on the bike or not isn't an issue.. as long as you have one registered to the license plate it will charge you apropriately.. just like with NTTA... since they're all intertwined now.. you can have an NTTA tag like I do and still be good for the harris county EX tags, and the TX-Tag systems... as long as you have a tag associated with your license plate you won't get a bill or tickets

Not too sure if i would trust the random tx tag agent to take whatever money out of my bag for me... unless you can see their hands at all times... some people are shady.

Just got my Tx Tag and hit the toll roads to test it out.
Have the tag in my jacket pocket. So far when i log into my account @ txtag, it shows nothing. So im not sure if it isnt working or if it just isnt showing yet.
I guess i will dispute if they bill me for a violation.
Also, i didnt notice the camera flashes, like when im in my car.... perhaps cause i was going to fast?
I have also heard rumors that if you ride the lines between lanes, they wont even register a vehicle going thru.... anyone able to confirm?

Re: TxTag for Bikes

Did you get the transponder type that is for motorcycles or the sticker for car windshields? The stickers apparently only work on glass windshields. The transponders will work in tank bags or pockets.

I see a green light at the booths with mine. If it doesn't read the sticker/transponder on any vehicle that passes through then it bills the plate. It the plate is associated with a txtag then they bill you at the end of the month. So if you aren't seeing activity on your account then expect it to show up later in the month when the plate reading shows up.

they gave me the motorcycle specific one... its like a box... bulky as **** if you ask me...
For now im just toting it in my jacket.... thinking about putting under the seat, but wanted to know first if it would read properly in my jacket......
i guess we shall see...
The lady at the service center said it would read inside a saddle bag too...(I dont have bags, but i figure if in a bag is good then in my pocket should be good also)

Re: TxTag for Bikes

I have one and don't keep it on the bike. **** thing never registered on some tolls (I miss those buzzers LOL) so I shelved the thing. If I split a lane and the sensors don't catch me.... good for me. If they do catch me in a photo... I hope they have to expend some man hours cross referencing the plate to my tag. I have paid so freaking much over the years to NTTA, I think they should have to work a little to get that money! I know... it's childish but it irks me to have us pay for a road many times over and the only real improvements are to extend the toll roads in distance (mo money) and not really address the traffic flow/congestion.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

Under the seat probably won't read. When I picked up my transponder one they told me it wouldn't read in the glove compartment of my truck when I took it home and they were right.

Like I said, once you have it associated with your plate then you will get read by plate and it will most likely show on the bill when you get it. Just takes longer to show online than when the transponder gets read. You may find you can use the velcro that came with it to attach it inside the fairing near the light. That would get it out of the way. Since your bike is kind of a forward leaning riding position that may be why it hasn't been detected in your pocket.

To test, just tape it on the tank and go slow getting on at one of the locations with the reader on the onramp. Watch for the flash then the green light.

I have to admit that there is one off ramp near the house that is a 50/50 whether it picks mine up in the tank bag. The rest almost always get it.

Oh, and riding down the middle of the lane at one of the big toll plazas doesn't work because they have added some extra sensors. However changing lanes on the one on north Mopac at just the right time...

Re: TxTag for Bikes

I went to the point of buying an "EZ Pass" holder from Twisted Throttle but I never could get it to fit just right. Several of the older riders recommended just sticking it under my seat.
I finally got so frustrated that I called the toll service. The operator was familiar with motorcycles and said he kept his under his seat. I have never had a problem in 2 years. You can also go online and make sure that the toll was deducted from your account.
Don't waste your money on a "holder". You don't need it. I wish I would have made that call before I purchased.

Re: TxTag for Bikes

Does the moto specific version go bad? I've been carrying mine in my jacket pocket, even tilting it toward the readers, and i'm not getting the green light. Of course my plate is connected to the account so I get charged on the metered entrance/exit.
