Re: 2012 HHH escorts needed Aug 25

Yea, I didn't make it last year to the training either, so they gave me a low responsibility job. Fine by me, I got to play chase for my group. Basically I was the back end of their rolling roadblock.

Thanks for that info. It helps me a bunch. It looks like I'll have a conflict on Saturday and I really need to attend to the other matter, but I didn't want to bail on a commitment I made.

I did the Iron Man when it was here in Houston. 113 miles running about 25mph with a person 6'3" on the back of the 650 vstrom. was interesting. i plan on doing again next year.

Larry just sent out an email describing what we needed to do (changes this year)

If anyone missed it, let me know and I'll get it to you.

Someone should convert that to a gps file. It sure is nice to know where you are in the whole deal.

1. I already know how.
2. I lack the motivation, as I'm not attending this year. I suggest it because it sure would have been helpful last year.
3. I currently lack the software to do so. Well, I have the installs, but haven't put them back in since the HDD crash and haven't needed them really.

GPSBabel That's all the software I used.
Google Maps was kind enough to give me a KML file, which GPSBabel took and converted to a GPX file.
I love open-source

Too bad i don't have a GPS on the bike.
Hopefully my phone will use the route properly

I'm going to Jacksboro to spend the night and I'll be there bright and early tomorrow. Right now I'm planning on trailering the KLR up.

Anybody back? How'd it go? Certainly wasn't hot enough to live up to it's name this year!

Apparently you weren't pedaling it.

The headwinds on the stretch from Burkburnett back into Wichita Falls were cruel.

Second 100 miler for 2012 in the books.

It wasn't very warm, but the winds were a bit annoying.
I enjoyed the breeze, but felt bad for those pedaling.

It was a good year. Missing 2 riders from my group, but it worked out just fine.

Trailered to Decatur where we got a room, rode up friday night to WF for the meeting, then back to Decatur for a few hrs sleep before meeting back in WF at 0600 Saturday.
Blew a tire on the trailer just before Decatur, course it was too late to get it fixed Friday, so I rode the HHH, while my wife got the tire fixed and met me in WF.
Turns out Walmart wouldn't touch the trailer as the tires were car tires, so my wife had to remove/reinstall the tire for them in the rain no less!

Re: 2012 HHH escorts needed Aug 25

I wound up riding up instead of trailering, I drew a short race with kids and that was over pretty quick. I've got to agree with Trice though. I was glad I wasn't pedaling yesterday. The winds were pretty bad just riding the KLR home.

There were two kids in my group that were pretty small, and their numbers were really to big for them. The numbers caught air and blew up like drag chutes. I would have stopped and rigged them up better for them if I could have

Well, it's not the Windier than....

True though, I got blown around quite a bit on the motorcycle yesterday, that wouldn't have been fun for a long bicycle ride for sure. I'll have to check in with my coworker tomorrow and see how he did.

I always try to beat the heat and the wind a bit by heading out at 6 am from the MPEC.

No way I'm riding out in the pack of 10,000+ at 7:05 when the canon goes off.
