We only had a couple short 70 MPH sections. I wouldn't worry about not being able to do much of the 70 MPH sections, we or at least I believe in ride your ride, don't think you have to run what others are running. When I lead I always wait until the last rider comes to any turn off we take. We are working on more routes that will be as little highway speeds as possible and sticking to the dirt roads or paved country lanes.

I checked the GPS and my moving average speed was 46.3 MPH, but this also includes my ride to and from New Waverly on I-45.

Re: Lake Conroe / Livingston / Sam Houston

That sounds like alot of fun then.
Things are going to be crazy for me at work for the next couple of days.
My boss will be out of work for a but leaving me to run the show.
I hope this ride continues long enough for me to take advantage.

The rides will be hit and miss on when they occur. Some of the group races and will not be riding every weekend. Others work every other weekend and not ride. Sometimes some of us make the Pie Runs or also do street rides with others in the area so I don't see this being the same riders every ride or it occurring every weekend but it will continue for a while, just too much fun not to continue.

Re: Lake Conroe / Livingston / Sam Houston

Sounds like Whitey Trash needs to ride with me.

I rode the SH forest service roads Saturday on my little 220cc.
I was hoping to get lucky and run into Hemibee's group. But I
didn't see them.

I spend 3 hours plotting routes on my GPS (I'm new at this)
the night before. I picked only "forest service roads"; so my
little 220cc can avoid the pavement as much as possible. I
ended up doing 70 miles of 95% dirt road. I started on the
East Side trail head. I went past the West Side trail head. I
saw Outlaw mototrax. All very easy stuff. "Could have done
it on a chopper"-type of dualsport riding. Nothing specular
to see at all. Just trees and more trees. But I did see one or
two interesting side dirt road that I didn't dare go solo.

I began doing the New Waverly side when rain poured over
me. I quit and went home. I plan to finish those routes later.

I'm looking for a big bike so I can ride with the big boys. Being
limited to dirt road is not fun when dualsporting in Texas.

Twosmoke and Whitey. I also have a TW200 and like to ride the forest. Since I am in Sugar Land it is a bit of a hike though.

We must have just missed each other, we rode the same area.

Hmmm. Maybe we can get a ride out of this? Two Sundays from now?
Anyone want to try this?

Re: Lake Conroe / Livingston / Sam Houston

I am happy to see that more riders have an interest in Dual sport / light off road riding. I will be out RVing this weekend but ready to ride on Labor day.

Not sure where I'll be riding. option 1. Lead a group on a Brazoria county ride (lots of farm roads, some gravel) or... Explore the East side of Sam Houston National Forest (lots of dirt).

any thoughts?

I live SW Houston, I had an 08 KLR 650 (I see that you own an 09) before I traded it for my 1150GSA, It is a fantastic bike, I actually miss it a lot. If you ever want to take a ride to the Brazoria national wildlife refuge, let me know. No dirt but nice back roads.

I made a run thru SHNF east of New Waverly this morning and think I've found a pretty good route. After looking at the route on line there appeared to be more roads in the area but we found several of them gated off by the National Forest. Next week I'm going to see about picking up an actual map to see what else may be out there that we didn't check out.

Re: Lake Conroe / Livingston / Sam Houston

Have you obtained this national forest motor vehicle use map?

http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5380291.pdf

It might help but does not replace a real map.

I'd forgot about that one, I'll have to check it out when I get on the computer, kinda hard to see on the phone.

I had a map but forgot where I put it. The only problem with it would be that it is at least 25 years old.

9th could work.
I have a (new-to-me) bluetooth headset that I can use to listen to the games on.

I probably can't make it on the 8th but the 9th is looking good.

Re: Lake Conroe / Livingston / Sam Houston

On the 9th I'm looking at this route, a little pavement and a bunch of dirt roads.

http://goo.gl/maps/v856y

The route set up to be GS, Tiger, Strom, KLR, TW or whatever dual sport friendly.
