DR650 Help

Local seller has this highly modified DR650 for sale. I don't know enough about engine mods to know if this bike would be reliable or is it going to only last 5,000 miles with the mods listed? I would like a supermoto that is comporable to a DRZ400sm but might have some more kick to it and won't break the bank.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Listed mods on DR650

It was a frame off build that started with painting the frame and having a 10.5:1 compression piston, web 223 cam, ported head with 36mm intake valves/32mm exhaust valves and an FCR 41mm motorcross carb(jetted perfectly and has CRF accel pump plunger mod) installed while the motor was out(have ticket from machine shop for $1300+ in engine work.) Additional engine parts include FMF full exhaust with a powerbomb headpipe and a Q2 silener that has been cut down 3 inches with the quite core removed for flow as well as a K&N filter. Engine wise this is a 50+HP DR650

Re: DR650 Help

All the modifications do nothing for me and if you can't repair, rebuild, and afford to replace all these parts and modification that have been done to this bike I would buy something else. Looks like a money pit to me. If you want a motard bike then buy one of the factory models, better resale and value. Look at a 07 BMW 650 MotoX, nice bike and looks great to.

Re: DR650 Help

A well built performance motor would not scare me at all if i knew the builder
and also how it was broken in and treated.

Those items known it should be almost as reliable if not as as a stock motor, at that compression ration it is not going to require any race fuel to run, or so stressed it will be a nightmare.

The question is are you comfortable with mechanical work as any modified vehicle car bike whatever will need some levels of maintenance above a stock motor as it is designed to perform to a higher level. If you are comfortable there then buy away, if you are more comfortable with a straight off the showroom warranty I would pass
