The riding here at Cloudcroft covers the whole spectrum from real easy to very difficult. There are tons of graded gravel roads, two track unmaintained roads, ATV/motorcycle tails, and motorcycle only single track. We did the top half of Rim Trail today. Not a problem on my KTM 530, but I would NOT want to do it on a KLR!! Lots of NARROW rocky and rooted sections that can be pretty steep and long. Very technical and fun.

Our last day of riding will be Friday and we head home early Saturday. Weather here is PERFECT!! It makes for nice post ride visiting

Thanks!

Hurricane Issac wants to go to Arkansas more than I do, and The Beyond EPIC ride is cancelled, so I'm going with my Cloudcroft contingency plan.

I'm leaving Austin Thursday morning. I'll stop by the Summit Inn and look for the TWT crew Thursday evening and be ready to ride Friday.

It looks like some other "EPIC refugees" are headed that way too!

The pictures and the trails look great. We might have to go there next year instead of ouray.

I like:

http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/linc...34166&actid=93

...you can also get detailed maps from the park ranger office near Cloudcroft. They will also tell you which trails are open/closed.

Don't forget to ride Carlsbad on the way back to break up the trip. The Sitting Bull Falls has some decent trails around it.

Re: REAL short notice.. But who wants to go? Ouray, maybe Cloudcroft? (8/24 - 9/2)

Rich,

I have tracks for most of what we've ridden. However, for the actual trails, the best thing is the Lincoln National Forest Trail Guide. It is a book with really good maps and descriptions of the trails. The big fold out map it lame. It is pretty, but the text is VERY hard to read. It almost looks like the ink smudged when they were printing them.

Some of the EPIC refugees arrived this evening and joined us for dinner. We will be taking them out for a good ride tomorrow.

Thanks Scott!

I bought the trail guide from the a couple years ago. I was going to use the tracks and map in concert with each other.

This Colorado dual sport thing sucks. The scenery just isn't as good as what you get in Junction. LOL
