Re: Butler Maps - printed motorcycle maps for riders by riders

WOW!!!

i've read about 'em, i've bought some of 'em & i've ridden w/ 'em

& NOW I'VE WITNESSED THE BUTLER PROCESS IN ACTION!!!

yesterday, while on a cage trip, w/ wife & granddaughter in tow, high up in the rockies @ ANIMAS FORKS, CO, i parked next to a gaggle of DS/ADVENTURE bikes

the bikes were, prominently, displaying BUTLER MAPS & TOURATECH stickers

yep, it was a mapping, filming & equipment testing/bashing run(my description) run...

i was told that one of the riders was from BUTLER & another was THE HONCHO of TOURATECH

what i saw convinced me that these guys really do all the testing/research, themselves, & that THEIR PRODUCTS ARE AS ADVERTISED, in that regard

in years past, i have driven & ridden many of the roads they were riding, yesterday, and as i stood there in my shorts & chili pepper scrub shirt, i watched these riders head up THE CINNAMON PASS ROAD, on the big KTM's & big BEEMERS, I WAS IN AWE!!!

MY HAT IS OFF TO BUTLER & TOURATECH for really doing the research the rest of us need, in order to have a great experience

i guess, the bottom line is...

IF BUTLER OR TOURATECH TELLS YOU IT IS SO, IT IS SO

shiny side up

Bill, I would guess that your Texas Hill Country map doesn't include far south west Texas and the Big Bend area. Is there any plan to map that area?

I'd think something from Abilene west would be terrific. You could include the Historic Forts trail, and so on.

Re: Butler Maps - printed motorcycle maps for riders by riders

Guys...I'm not really sure that there are enough unknown or hidden paved gems out in that part of Texas. Yes...there are some really nice roads...mostly Ranch & Farm to Markets (RM/FMs) but most of those Historic Routes/Places have been documented already on other maps & in some travel guides.

A better bet would be for Butler to do a Back Country Discovery Route like the ones for Washington & Utah already on the market (..& Colorado coming up). Those maps seek out all the little known gravel/rocky/sandy backroads & lace them together with some of the better RM/FMs running generally from north to south (or in the case with a state as big as Texas....possibly east to west or a combination/multiple direction route).

Now, I don't kno the Butler guys plannin strategy.....but this scenario would seem to make sense to me. Leave the paved maps for the area closer to I35 from the west & points to the east where the roads are more numerous. We've got a real good start with the Hill Country Map.....

Re: Butler Maps - printed motorcycle maps for riders by riders

Cool...I'm planning on buying the Ozarks and THC, just saying I'd buy a West Texas hard surface map as well. I wouldn't buy a back country... Concours don't like dirt and sand.
