I can vouch for his muddy bike though I was not there when he found it. Thanks for showing me around. Next time lets hit some dunes on the way back to Texas.

Re: Beyond Epic 5 - Ozark Rally, Aug 31 - Sep 3, 2012

BTW - for any Cloudcroft riders: There are many routes to Cloudcroft and two of them pass by some pretty cool sand dunes. One is west of Odessa TX and Monohans Sandhills Park. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-pa...hans-sandhills

I have never ridden these but hear they are pretty cool.

The other set of dunes is located in a set of oilfields just north of Maljamar NM on hwy 82. It is all BLM land. Technically you are supposed to have a park sticker but I have been riding there for almost 20 years and have never been asked for one. In fact I have rarely seen anyone else out there. If anyone is interested shoot me a message and I will try to guide you in there.

Also - sand tires are not necessary but this is no place for big dual sports. The KLR 650 is by far too big and underpowered for the dunes.

Re: Beyond Epic 5 - Ozark Rally, Aug 31 - Sep 3, 2012

I have to make a correction. Monohans State Park is not the other set of rideable dunes. This is up near Kermit TX but don't know exactly where. The place is called, i think, Kermit sand dunes and has an entrance fee. I always have ridden the dunes by Maljamar but have heard folks talk about the others. I assumed it was Monohans but was mistaken.

Thanks. One more and I'm done. From Cloudcroft via 5563 to Sun Spot is paved. Does it turn to gravel at that point enroute to Timberon and eventually turning back East to Pinon?

EXCELLENTLY paved into Timberon. Nicely graded gravel after Timberon.

Re: Beyond Epic 5 - Ozark Rally, Aug 31 - Sep 3, 2012

I had a leaner mix but wanted to use up the old can of 32:1 first. I can't thank you guys enough for showing me some of the trails on the RM250. I go to NM fairly often and will start making the trails in Cloudcroft a regular stop. Someone else had the idea of making an organized rally up there -- count on me to join in.

Is this a new fender mod? Makes sense...keep mud and stuff from getting under it.

There's gotta be a story here...

Re: Ride Report: Cloudcroft instead of Epic ride, thanks to Issac

Went to Cloudcroft, rode the bikes, met some new folks, and had a blast.

Here’s a few pictures:

We came across an out of gas cruiser between Artesia and Hope. As you can see from the clouds, it looked like it was about to pour. The couple said they had been there for a while, with no one stopping to help. Tourmiester to the rescue.

Hooked up with Jbay in Cloudcroft and rode some great FS roads, along with some single track.

Next day on the RIM Trail.

The third day we met up with ToeJam at his place and he was kind enough to take us on some great two-track on the Big bikes.

The fourth day it was back to finish up the RIM Trail.

The fifth day it was back to the Big Bikes and some relaxing two-track. After the last 2.5 miles of the RIM Trail we needed a break from single-track…

The last day we met up with Bastrop, O-Matic, and 2turdyL for a mix of single-track and two-track.

Total of six great days of riding and I was spent. This has got to be one of my favorite places to ride and I can’t wait to go back…

Great pix Roger. Looks like y'all covered a lot of ground. There is something uniquely cool about riding those trails. It's different...
