2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 revealed

From http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-...led/21344.html

"The Ninja 300 has a larger-displacement 296cc fuel-injected parallel twin engine with dual throttle valves. In terms of power the 300 will gain 7bhp with an output of 39bhp. The new bike also features "advanced racing-derived technology" in the form of a slipper clutch and a back-torque limiter. "

What I read earlier said Europe is getting it for sure, but the US won't know until next week.

Yep, that's the word. It's official on the Kawi UK site, but there's an event scheduled for Sept 13th in Times Square where they're unveiling...something.

It's kind of ironic how cars and trucks are getting smaller, more efficient engines, yet bikes are being pushed out with bigger engines. I think the technology gap between cars and bikes is getting smaller and smaller.

Well, it is coming to the states and I'm glad. Sure it is a bigger motor, but they are claiming better fuel efficiency over the smaller motor. Either way I would take it over the Honda just because I tend to prefer a multi-cylinder bike over a single when it comes to pure street riding.

This may be my wife's first street bike.

I think this is in part due to the higher speed limits. IMHO, 300cc's is a perfect bike in terms of weigth and longevity while at our 70+ MPH. Also have to keep in mind more women are riding than before and prefer the smaller bikes as women tend to be shorter inseams than guys. I've yet to see a woman on a vstrom.

Anything 250 cc's and above is capable of being an every day bike. Our CBR250R is capable of doing 75 all day long even hauling over 200lbs and gets 70 mpg while doing it.

Re: 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 revealed

It is a nice little bike but it just outgrew the first bike catagory for the under 16 year old riders here in Texas. Kids 15 years old can get a MC license to ride an UNDER 250cc motorcycle.

I wouldn't want some 16 yr old on a ninja 250 anyway. Give that kid a dual sport. Needs to learn how to control a squirly bike anyway.

Hmm I must be somehow missing them at the pie runs. Anyway, I stand gladly corrected!

I don't know about Squeaky, but Elzi (TexasShadow) has been pretty darn busy the past few years and as of now is relocated out to Big Bend for retirement. Pie Runs aren't always a good source of info. Heck, my Wife rides the Kawi version of a Strom and I'd bet good money that you have never seen her at a Pie Run. But then again, the same could be said for me. I ride quite a bit, but for some reason riding somewhere just to get pie just doesn't do it for me. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Now if you were in Colorado this summer you might have seen us.

Re: 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 revealed

You are going to pay a lot for the extra 50 cc's. $4799 for non-ABS and $5499 for the ABS model.

*sigh* The logic behind this statement is the reason we don't get the cool smaller displacement bikes in the US. Lower displacement automatically reduces the worth to us as consumers, meaning we won't pay what we perceive to be inflated prices. I don't think this mentality is going anywhere anytime soon, nor will the smaller bikes come flooding to the US.

Bikes cost money to develop, regardless of displacement. They all go through long processes of design, analysis and such. Even parts-bin bikes have a lot of this. MSRP has to justify all the behind-the-scenes work to bring it to production. (not that I want to justify the manufacturers in pricing me out of the new bikes to come...)

FWIW, I saw $4799 standard, $4999 for the LE paint and $5499 listed for the LE ABS, but didn't ever see an ABS model only listed anywhere.

Don't think of it as paying for the displacement, think of it as paying for the fuel injection.

Re: 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 revealed

I only wish they had given the same treatment to the EX500 and Ninja 250. A few more horses for the 250 with fuel injection, and add the styling and EFI to the 500 boosting its HP up a bit... But I guess that would cut into the 650 sales, etc.
