Re: Aging and motorcycling

"In the meantime, I'm loving life and loving riding. And the old folks at church ask me why I have joined the "49'ers" now that I'm over 60, I simply explain the following: "You guys want to go to Branson to see Andy Williams, and you want to go in a big bus. I want to go to Cleveland to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I want to go on a bike." I may be on the bus to Branson someday, but not until Paul McCartney opens a supper club there."

Love this and understand! I can't make myself go to the ss class I belong in! lol

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I've never really wanted to go to Vegas except as a end point on the Barstow to Las Vegas ride. I definately don't want to go to Branson!

As for riding alone, there is the Messner issue. Sometimes riding alone is safer than riding with people who are wreckless and willing to take you out with them. There comes a time in a rider's life when he says, "You know, I just don't need to do that any more."

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I know guys that are old at 50 and others that are young at 70. Genetics plays some part in the equation--you can't overcome that with any amount of diet and exercise. Attitude and outlook also come in to play. Apparently I've got good genes and am in good health despite years of trying to ruin it with too much of the wrong food, strong drink, and bad judgement. But hey, I can still ride 1200 miles in a day and hop off the bike without any trouble so its good.

True. I have fun with my old V8 S10. I get to see some of the latest and greatest going together where my son works: http://www.legenshotrod.com/

What do you mean "aren't we all"? I'm still struggling to get to the top!

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I think that the end of Second Hand Lions would be a fitting exit, except with a Vincent.

I've got to say that RollingJ once made a comment that has stuck with me. One guy we were riding with said that he didn't want to be sixty nursing injuries he got when he was forty. RollingJ turned to me and said I want to be eighty nursing injuries I got when I was seventy.

I'd like to own a hack for the sake of owning a hack, but I'm going to have to drop my bike at a stop light several times before I get off of two wheels for good.
