Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I can't find a whole lot of info on them besides their site and the odd one liner review floating around the net. Anyone on here ever bought anything there?

Re: Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I was by there to try to buy a bike just last Tuesday. The place looks like the lot for Sanford & Son. It is immediately behind the Dallas zoo (if you know the area). I left since they weren't open yet and called back later to ask about the bike. The guy who answered the phone said, "Let me look for the paperwork on that bike". After about 5 minutes, he came back on the line and said, "I can't find any papers for that one (an ST1100) so I think we might have sold it. I looked around the place and didn't see it." I went elsewhere.

A buddy of mine bought a Versys there about a year ago. Good bike in perfect condition, fair price.

I've never dealt with them or anything but for some reason my first instinct tells me to avoid them. They seem like the type of place that might put stolen parts on a bike. Just my first impression and admittedly unwarranted.

Oh yeah, I know where it is - I work all around Dallas and have gone by several times. I just wish I was still in a position to wear body armor for a living when I go through those neighborhoods

I've also kind of gotten the same vibe as other people and like someone else said, I suppose it's really unwarranted. But it really couldn't be in too much of a worse spot. The few online reviews that I've read were positive, but we're talking like 3 or 4 that I could find.

I bought a bike from them in '03. I went there early on a Saturday when all the knuckle heads were asleep. Even though it is in a bad area, I got a fair price and felt they were straight shooters.

Re: Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I was out there a few months ago to look around, bikes seem to be in good shape and they offered to let me test ride whatever I wanted and were willing to answer any questions I had. place sure looks sketchy though, but, they have been around for a while in that location, so they are doing something right.

When I was looking at stroms, they had one with more miles, same year, less farkles than DFW Honda for a grand more. Not sure if Honda just wanted the bike gone (they told me they had trouble finding a tall enough rider), but I decided not to shop at Re-cycles.

Your better off sifting thru the Craigslist ads and ebay ads. This is where they were buying their bikes from a couple of years ago. Reposting back on Craigslist for $1000 or more. I personally like talking with previos owner about the bikes history. You get none at Recycles.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I've been by there several times over the years, and did a deal with them not too long ago. I traded in the ST1100 currently shown on their web-site. (Great bike, if you are interested in it, btw). They were always super nice, seem to usually have an interesting mix of brands/models, and the deal we struck was a fair one in my book. (They made a profit & I got the over-priced/under-farkled Strom I wanted. )

I've never had a problem with where it is located. My early life was spent in the general vicinity, and I don't look for trouble when I am there. (Or anywhere else, for that matter) From what I understand, the property has been in the family for a long time, which I suppose helps keep their overhead low. If you are curious, take your family to the zoo and drive by the place. You'll know if you want to stop or not and the kiddos will be happy either way.

Yeah, more than likely that's what I'm going to end up doing. But Re-cycles has two of the bikes that I've been interested in and thought I may go look at them side by side, etc.

Thanks for the input guys/gals!

I distrusted them because they couldn't find a bike they had posted online....nor the paperwork. Guy didn't know what happened to it.

Re: Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I have known Brian for a long time {owner} Nice guy I know him and I would buy a bike from him. My father worked for Mr Drummond [Brians father]. At same location back in early sixties. I would play along the train tracks. Nicer neighborhood then

Re: Anyone have experience with Re-cycles in Dallas?

I've had 2 bad runnins with them neither involved buying a bike from them. It doesn't matter to me where their located cause I'll go anywhere to look at a motorcyle. If you notice those who have bought from them and are happy are out of the metroplex. Tattogunman is in it all he has to do is get to the bike before recycles gets it. And they've got all day to Chase down Craigslist ads.
