check out the Summer Solstice Ride. Orange to Anthony on the longest day of the year. Usually has an optional add-on to qualify for a SS1k.

A whole year?!?

I have to admit, I've never had the desire to do a SS1000. Different stroke, ya' know.... If I did, it would probably be one way.

Kurt, the way you are with bikes, if you ever got the IBA bug you'd be knocking them out left and right.

Yeah, I might just be the latter.

One day I want a SS1k. The Versys is not the right bike for it though. I've got a 10 day 4k mile trip under my belt to prove that--she's good for about 10-12 hours, then I'm done.

I honestly can't think of a better loop to use for the SS1k than the Lubbock Loop. It is a nice piece of road that typically has very little traffic.

Re: Lubbock Extreme SaddleSore

I did 1048 miles from Gatesville to Knoxville TN in a little over 12 hours on my GSA. I stopped only to pee and ate on the bike. I was only pulled over once in Texas but no ticket I rode clean through Arkansas without putting a foot down. It was pure insanity right to the point that I blew tire at Knoxville at a 100 plus in the rain. Luckily the sidewalls of a Tourance are stable enough to maintain some semblence of control and I survived. To ride a 1000 miles in a loop...I would have to be chasing SlowOldGuy or TxJames
Cudos to the man!

Re: Lubbock Extreme SaddleSore

1048 miles in 13 hours is 80 mph overall average. That's exceptional. 12 hours would be over 87 mph overall average. It's doable, but wow.... that's a lot of high speed miles.

If you think that's bad on pavement you sure don't want to follow him on gravel. If you can stay close, you've done yourself proud.

Re: Lubbock Extreme SaddleSore

I was in triple digits most of the way on interstates....no towns or stop lights, pee when I fuel, munching food bars on the road....like I said...it was not that fun but I was in a hurry to get to New Hampshire to see my daughter and I had limited time to make the trip. My next 2 days were 750 mile 9 hour days. Cleatus knows my crowd...My BMW has seen 120 by GPS on dirt, My KTM...lord only knows cause it goes so fast I am afraid to look down

I guess the rules have changed, I was always led to believe that the IBA wouldnt certify a ride of continuous loops, but I guess if you propose a ride to Mr. Kneebone & Co. and theyre good with it, well, ok then.

Kudos to Bill. That being said........

No time better than the present.

Piece of cake for you. Jump on the 20, back east on the 10, north on the 35, and then zip back home. 80 mph speed limits for almost half the trip. You could ride the speed limit the entire trip and probably do it in 16 hours.

Let's see, SH130 tollway will be 42 miles long after completion in a couple of months with posted speed limits of 80-85 mph. Just over 12 "loops" for 1000 miles, I could be done by supper.

What would it cost you in tolls?

...this is a very interesting idea.

That means 90 mph the whole time for me. At night, it is pretty well lighted, so the deer thing won't be an issue like riding on the West Texas highways.

Are there any close gas stations to IH130 so you don't have to detour to Round Rock or Georgetown proper and deal with traffic lights to slow down the average moving speed? Does the IB organization certify short-loop courses like that?

Re: Lubbock Extreme SaddleSore

There was a news story recently about the lack of growth along the tollway. It showed the lone example of growth... a gas station somewhere along the way.

I know there is one at the Kelly Lane exit.

Red, for a ride such as that you'd need to get prior approval from the IBA as well as having witnesses at both ends for the duration of the ride. It is noted on the IBA website that they do NOT certify rides of out & back, out & back, out & back, etc but if the ride is unique enough and documented well enough they may consider it.

There is a difference between that sort of an out and back repeated loop and a single 500 mile ride out and then back.
