Lies are fragile. They require constant attentiveness to keep them alive. The exposure of a single truth can rip through an ocean of lies, evaporating it instantly. - Brandon Smith

If you want government to intervene domestically, you’re a liberal. If you want government to intervene overseas, you’re a conservative. If you want government to intervene everywhere, you’re a moderate. If you don’t want government to intervene anywhere, you’re an extremist. — Joe Sobran

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. – Murray N. Rothbard

When one possessed of the Truth suffers from a heavy heart he is susceptible to a more dangerous affliction — the craving for power to eradicate error, to cause Truth to triumph by force. - Frank Chodorov

Where politicians flourish, long history has harshly taught us, people and their liberty wither. Where the state is god and the "public interest" worshipped, individual man will be found bleeding upon the altar. - Karl Hess

The accepted wisdom is that without the state, society would collapse into lawlessness and crime. In fact, lawlessness and crime define the very nature of the state and the society organized by it. - Bionic Mosquito

But the myth of the rule of law does more than render the people submissive to state authority; it also turns them into the state's accomplices in the exercise of its power. For people who would ordinarily consider it a great evil to deprive individuals of their rights or oppress politically powerless minority groups will respond with patriotic fervor when these same actions are described as upholding the rule of law. - John Hasnas

Re: K trail weekend trip

Hey Mike thought about you some, who would take a beginer dual sport ride on the Clayton Trail

I guess the proper way to get to the K trail west from Clayton is the Clayton Trail

started out on the Hurd Trail and ran off to Hurd Creek ending up at Indian Mounds, not much of a trail at all

never made it to the towers, afternoon rode Clayton to K trail south to Hurd Creek,

which is blocked off, the ride around has a few trenches

what a work out!!! cramped up so bad at night the other campers thought was goofing off in the tent

so here is some better music...

LOL I was wishing I was there that weekend. I couldn't wait to see your pics. Did anyone else show up ?
Ahh the old cramps. A few years ago a buddy of mine and I rode 5 parks in 5 days in Oklahoma riding atleast 50 miles each day. I know what you mean by cramps. They are horrible. You know what that is telling you dont you ? You need to ride more How do you like the new KTM ? Did you keep the BRP ?
Don't forget Oklahoma dual sport riders have a big get together in Oct. Looks like it is Oct 11-12 weekend) http://www.rideok.com/ Remember they were there the same weekend we were last year.

Mike Green

ps everything from the state park east to k trail has been blocked off for years. They way i showed you is the easiest and sfaest that I know of. I used to jeep 2500 acres on both sides of hurd creek road and have a key for that gate at the charchol plant.

Re: K trail weekend trip

It's kinda hard to get folks that far on short notice.

But I'd be looking forward to something more around first of Nov.
(maybe 2 or 3 weeks after East Tx)

Actually that is the best time - can you say COLORS!

Kiamichi Trail (K-Trail) runs just a couple miles south of the Scenic Talimena Hwy

Question Re: K trail weekend trip

I plan on riding the area in early November. I know it is easy on a WR250R but how about a F650GS at about 440 pounds? Is it mainly class 2 or more advanced class 3 with deep ruts and large boulders? Are their certain parts that are easier or is it the same consistency throughout the entire trail?

Thanks for any input.

Re: K trail weekend trip

Don't do it. You will mess up your GS and maybe yourself. The rocks are a killer on bigger bikes and you will dump it. The first part of the ride by Clayton is the hardest so the bigger bikes sometimes skip that part and join in at the Indian Hwy and then take that east to Mena. You will still hit a few rock gardens but they are managable if you are a good rider.

Re: K trail weekend trip

that's funny, kept thinking if Rich said the K trail is "easy" or it " isn't hard"

it was much harder than I remember, not marked well, and remote; its all rocks on rocks and hard to keep going

luckily I took frequent naps, walked the bike down some parts; I would not be able to keep up with some good riders unless they were very patient

I still have not seen the tower or the blue hole; the area is a very cool place to explore

It is easy if you like rocks on the Clayton side up to the fire tower.

I rode it from Three Sticks Monument to Mena on my Super Tenere with bags and street tires. YMMV

Re: K trail weekend trip

From Three Sticks to Mena is all nice maintained dirt that any bike can do. Indian Hwy to Three Sticks is harder with several rock gardens and probably some water crossings (more like mud holes). Clayton to Indian Hwy is significant rocks and much harder climbs. Only dirt oriented 650cc and smaller should attempt the Clayton to Indian Hwy part.

Yea, I just read on advrider that area from TSM to Mena is really easy. The other part, I may avoid though. I don't want to pay BMW any more $$.
