ummmm ... who need a title anyways...man when I was growing up in the 70's - titles were optional too...

I have a 2007 GSXR 750 with 13k miles. You can see what it needs in the pictures (FAIRINGS) I have the rest of the parts as you can see in the other pictures. Here's the catch, I'm selling it cheap cause I don't have the title, I bought it off a guy in Brownsville about a few years ago and he was suppose to send it to me and I never heard from the dude. The bike runs great it does need a battery but right now I have one I can start it with.
This baby will sell fast ... so click on the link before it is gone...

Re: The Craigslist Thread

By his definition of "extra motor" I could sell you an "extra house" with a quick trip to Home Depot!

Easy enough to check. If it's legit, he'll give you the VIN. Then you can run it and verify it isn't stolen. If you're doing track days, you could make this work. If it's legit, then you can do a lost title claim on it. But otherwise I'd stay, no run, away from this "deal".

Re: The Craigslist Thread

Have a member of the local constabulary swing by with you and call in the VIN. If legit then sweet (and it would make a fun go cart, if illegal then someone goes to jail....

Re: The Craigslist Thread

Anytime I buy anything of value (tv, dirt bike, lawnmower, tools, etc) from an individual, I take one photo containing their dl, face, and the item.

I can understand the reason behind this, but if somebody put those requirements on me, the deal would be off. I don't need to sale ANYTHING bad enough to let somebody take all those pictures.

Many things can be done with a copy of your DL, don't ever give anyone a copy or let them take a photo of it.

Other than the DL I probably wouldn't object if asked nicely and price of item warranted it, but photo would have my tongue sticking out for sure.

Re: The Craigslist Thread

If there is no title and the bike, lawnmower, etc is ever found to be stolen and in your possession, without a copy or photo of the sellers DL you will very likely go to jail or have a lot of legal wrangling to deal with.

I have seen it happen. The buyer's trust cost him 2 years in state and 5 on parole. He bought a homemade landscape trailer with 2 well worn commercial mowers, a couple trimmers, and a couple backpack blowers as a package deal from a guy who said he was retiring. He saw a sign on the trailer and later met the guy in a residential neighborhood in front of the 'sellers house' and gave him $5500 so he could start his own business. It turns out it was all hot and the house was just some house the seller picked because no one was home during the day. He had the stuff for two weeks before he was surrounded while he was finishing up his first client's house for the second time. His lawyer told him that without a copy of the sellers dl, there was nothing he could do.

There is no such thing as privacy anymore anyway. All the info is out there for the taking. It stinks, but it's true.

Re: The Craigslist Thread

It's also really important to know that a bill of sale is just a piece of paper unless it's notarized. People get screwed all the time by that.

Re: The Craigslist Thread

I'm cool with the notary seeing the dl. There's the legal paper trail.

I think photos of the loaded trailer with for sale sign and seller would have kept him out of jail. DL isn't a deciding factor. Either that or a better lawyer, unbelieveable he did time for that. Why didn't he show proof of payment, bill of sale, cash withdrawal record from his bank, etc. Something more to this incident than you have been told I think.

Re: The Craigslist Thread

There may be more to the story than I know. I had known the guy for years, and never picked up on anything shady.

It sure makes me think twice and attempt to cover my bases when cash changes hands.
