What I like:
Looks like a good update. Nice lines. Bird beak is better than the close up front fender. Doesn't look as bulky as the old models. Hopefully lost 20-30 lbs. Couldn't tell if its finally a single can exhaust. Appears like the rake may have been pulled out a tad.

Don't like:
Headlight, really? Looks like a KTM 990 and a gleestrom had a baby. I guess we can call this one a KTMStrom. I love my dual beam that I have now. They better have a 500-600 watt alt now so I can put lights on it like crazy to make up for the light output (even more so if the OEM beam really sucks). I will take that back if its an LED beam low(doubtful). Much better tail rack stock, I'll feel guilty replacing it. New engine.. makes me think. Only miles can tell.

No risk. It's all personal taste. Someone asked for one without a beak

I agree. I've never like the itty bitty projectors up there either.

Yeah...........is Ducati getting design royalties from all these people? I thought it was a really ugly design when it came out on the Multistrada. Shows what I know with so many others doing it now too.

The beaks help with mud and such. There are issues with taking stroms in sticky clay type mud and the close front fender. Front tires work better rolling than as a rudder. That said, a high front fender (2 inches above tire), not a beak would be what I would like. But then that cuts into travel room from the from suspension.

BMW set the large cc dual-sport standard decade plus ago and now there are many other choices to choose from. I like the way the new DL1000 looks!

Imitation is the best form of flattery. I have to say the large adventure bikes are all starting to morph together, so it is getting a bit boring now, but if it fits a niche, more power to them.

Perhaps the sport-touring market is dwindling and folks are considering the large adventure bikes a replacement for sport-touring?

I really like the look of that bike, especially in that color scheme.

Re: 2014 V-Strom 1000 - Late to the Party?

I like the new looks too. The orange seat on a red bike, not so much.

As if pretty much all dirt bikes look the same, all sport bikes look the same, most touring bikes look similar, then should the adventure bikes look pretty much the same?

I'm glad it's getting more appealing. I would've never have put it in the running before because of that. Maybe I'm too vain to own a DL. Or now that the new one is revealed, it's finally good looking enough to make the list of bikes I wouldn't mind being seen on.

That looks ten times better on the front end.
The stock beak serves no purpose whatsoever. I mean, it has a fender already, correct?

That looks a lot better. I'd like to see the rear subframe lowered to reflect just a couple inches of tire clearance at full compression. There really is no need to waste 6 inches of luggage space for the jacked-up sportbike styled rear styling treatment. I think the wheels look really nice with the paint treatment.

So does this mean that parking next to any other bike will no longer be an effective anti theft measure?

Re: 2014 V-Strom 1000 - Late to the Party?

I like the concept of updating the Strom with electronics and ABS, but the exhaust and front end leave me guessing. Would wait for aftermarket cases.

That said, I like the wheels much better than Suzuki's recent 3 spoke design. Would likey be priced much lower than a comparable BMW, Triumph, or even a Tenere.

Here's what the beak reminds me of....

I have to say I do not like the new design. The only thing I would keep would be the spoke wheel design. Everything else you can throw away. I don't like the color either.

Re: 2014 V-Strom 1000 - Late to the Party?

I really like this version of the Strom. It appears that Suzuki has given MADSTAD yet another product to improve upon. The only reason why it should exceed the MSRP of the current model is that it's new and it has ABS (there are ABS rotors on the front and rear wheels). I can't remember the price difference between the ABS/Non-ABS Bandit 1250 but you can probably apply that to the difference to the current DL1000 MSRP and be +/- $500. It looks to have a thickly padded seat like the Tenere. Questions that I have are:

Does it have cruise control? (yeah right! Just sayin' EVERY FI street legal bike should come standard with cruise control)
Are the ergo's considerably different than the current model?
What is the fuel range?
This bike should be lighter than the current model (reduction in plastic, wheels. etc) but how much lighter?
What is the torque curve?
How soon will a 'Yoshi' slip-on be available????????

I like it! Of course I have the original woodpecker with my Ducati 1100 Hypermotard, just got hit on my Svs 1000, think this might be its replacement. I hope the engine makes a bit more power. Try getting out of West Texas! 300 miles of desert in any direction!

Man, you're 90 miles from Cloudcroft; that's not too shabby. You could be in Lubbock, you know. Hope you give that new DL1000 a try-out. Looks like a sweet bike to me.
