Rotors - Floating vs. Solid
I'm looking to replace my front rotor and was wondering if there are any performance differences between floating and solid. EBC makes both kinds to fit my bike and they are substantially less expensive. $240 (discounthondaparts OEM) vs $150 (bikebandit EBC OE replacement)
Another question is if there are any Shadow owners who have put on floating rotors if the rivets contacted the inside of the caliper mount. I read one review on a floating rotor and the person said the rivets were contacting and he had to grind down his caliper mount for them to stop "clicking".    Any input is appreciated

Good question. I have wondered if floating rotors are primarily needed for solid mounted calipers. Since the Shadow has a floating caliper, what is the result if a floating rotor is used? Maybe one of the brake experts will weigh in.
On the Shadow Tourer forum, I have only seen someone install the EBC solid rotor on their Shadow. Of course that went on with no other mods needed.

floating rotors have little movement to them and are used with floating calapers. the typical floating rotor has a steel rotor and a aluminum center and can be less than half the weight of a solid rotor. reducing unsprung weight.
the center carier will stay cooler and a properly enginered (quality brand) floating rotor can be more resistant to warpage.
