Re: It's Coming!

That is too funny! and yes, I have always had the "point and shoot" digitals up until this one... I remember when 24.2mp was considered medium format and cost tens of thousands of dollars... So when this one came out (D3200) I decided that for once, I was going to be completely current on my technology for once in my life LOL... I love this thing!

The biggest drawback being size... the point and shoots are great for long road trips due to the lack of "luggage" effect but I WILL find a way to on board everything. Including the tripod LOL.. I will even take a picture of it fully loaded before we roll out!

Agh, it's blocked at work. I'll check it out tonight. It wouldn't be a journey though if you didn't take the long way. Maybe I should just make my next purchase a D4. I'm sure the wife will agree.

I lucked out that my tripod fits in my top box... just barely and it only goes in and out one way, but it works.

Everything fits in my Tailwind trailer so I don't worry about the size.

Re: It's Coming!

I started my digital journey in 2000 with an Olympus 2020Z 2 mpix camera and I don't even want to think about my journey to what I shall soon have. Kinda like not keeping track of all of the farkles that I have put in the wing.

Yep, some things we are better of just not adding up.

I started off in digital with a 2m Panasonic P-N-S, that was a little over $300, then another Panasonic DMZ-FC7 with a fixed, long zoom lens and now have a Nikon D3000. We also have a couple of Nikon P-N-S that my wife has had, her old one I keep in my bag for work type of use or to leave on the bike for quick shots.

Actually that is not totally true. I make money from the photography, nobody ever pays me to ride.

Very true. My dream would be to combine the two and make money.

Here I sit at my desk watching the battery of my new D800 charge. And even when it is finished, I can't do a thing as I don't have a lens here at work. Can't wait to see what this thing will do this evening!

I'm thinking the grizzlies won't hold still that long.

Re: It's Coming! Nikon D800

I found another surprise from the D800 tonight. I am currently going through the photos I took a few weeks ago. I came across this one.

I was about to hit the X key to delete it, and for grins I slid several of the the exposure adjust sliders over to the right.

This is what came out of it,

No way my D90 would have captured that much information when I gaffed the exposure so badly. I joked before as "my lame purchase justification" to Dianne that the camera can "see in the dark", well, it just might.

Re: Nikon D800

Five stops worth of exposure. Wow.

And what appears to be a quite usable image as well. That does have some performance to it.

Re: Nikon D800

Wow! That is absolutely insane. ISO 100 at what appears to be night? Did a flash not go off, or maybe it was set up for earlier in the day? Either way, that's too cool.

If it makes you feel any better, the d7000 (and the 5100 which shares the same sensor) isn't far behind for a crop body. Oh the good things that come from having a Sony sensor.

As much as I'd like a FF, the D7000 is probably (the current) camera I'd get. The flip screen on the 5100 moved all the buttons around weird, plus it's a great reason to go the next step up
