Just wanted to say hello.

I have been here since Dec05 but have failed to be very active here. I spent the winter getting my KLR650 ready for a long riding season and stayed fairly active on KLR650.net for all of the great technical info. Now its time to ride. I am in Hobbs, NM...nestled in the armpit of West Texas, 5 miles from the line. The closest riding buddy I have is in Albuquerque, NM and we try to get to the Guadalupe Mountains every 5-6 weeks. The "Guads" are perfect for me as I can ride 2hrs of pavement to get there, spent 8-10 hours on forest roads, jeep trails, etc., and then ride home. Great way to spend a day. I am increasing my skills in the loose rocky and slow technical stuff and am enjoying it more everytime I get over there. I am thinking of starting to develop sand skills now, as there are whole piles of the stuff around here...might be fun in the heat of the summer to get out for a few hours in the cool early morning and get home with the family before noon. I work an unconventional work schedule...6 days on 2 days off with 3 day weekends every 5th week....confusing, yes, but I enjoy having the majority of my days off during the week while everyone else is at work and the backroads are less crowded.

Anyways, I was born in Texas and have been inhaling Texas red sand all my life (you should see my snot rags) and I just wanted to say hello and see if there are any DS riders close by.

Hey what's happening? Good to see you over here on the TWT site. I have also seen your ride reports and posts over on Glenn's site(klr650.net). If you are ever over in the Houston area look me up for some riding. There are a bunch of KLRrider's here also, it is good to see a familiar name....Welcome.

Re: Just wanted to say hello.

Hmmm... how many people can you put up for a few nights

Welcome to the site! Klrno2 and her hubby are over in the Cloudcroft area I think. That is closer than Albuquerque! They both ride KLR's and post here.

I look forward to seeing pics from your rides

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. – Murray N. Rothbard

Where politicians flourish, long history has harshly taught us, people and their liberty wither. Where the state is god and the "public interest" worshipped, individual man will be found bleeding upon the altar. - Karl Hess

The accepted wisdom is that without the state, society would collapse into lawlessness and crime. In fact, lawlessness and crime define the very nature of the state and the society organized by it. - Bionic Mosquito

But the myth of the rule of law does more than render the people submissive to state authority; it also turns them into the state's accomplices in the exercise of its power. For people who would ordinarily consider it a great evil to deprive individuals of their rights or oppress politically powerless minority groups will respond with patriotic fervor when these same actions are described as upholding the rule of law. - John Hasnas

Re: Just wanted to say hello.

I think the 1st weekend of May I am going to hit the Guadalupes again with Rolando (from ABQ) In July, I am going up to Santa Fe to terrorize the La Bajada Trail and do some single track up in their COOL mountains. I will try to take some good pics and post them here. I am still trying to figure out my wife's camera. I recently (after my last ride) figured out how to do photo bursts. I missed out on some good wheelie and jumping pics but will try to catch them next time. I really want to get down to Big Bend in the fall. I have always wanted to go there and now with the KLR, I think I should. 4 of the best DS roads in TX are there, so I hear.
