Great Dual Sporting Area of Texas

I went to my friends deer lease near Paducah, Texas this weekend and took my WR450F with me for just in case. Well, turned out I'm glad I took it. I found more county roads worth dual sporting than I have ever seen.

It makes Junction,TX look like trailer park for riding. I found a road that twisted and turned, went up and down to a great water crossing at the Pease River. I did not take a camera, but I'm wishing I would have. There are a load of water crossings and even unmaintained county roads. Some of the roads are pretty difficult.

I am going back there to do some more exploring in the coming months when it drys out a bit. If anyone is interested in going let me know. It would be good to get a couple of groups together so we could cover more territory.

It was completely flat on 70 until you get to about Crowell. Then there is some nice terrain and scenery and miles and miles of awesome dirt roads. Again if anyone is interested in going and doing some more exploring let me know.

I would imagine so.. I don't believe I made it down that road, but if it is anything like some of the others then I would say yes.

One note though, I saw more rattle snakes than I have ever seen in my life.

That's not far from Canyonlands SP. I'll be spending time in that area over Turkey Weekend with the new 'boy' exploring back roads.

Oh yeah, cause the Junction "supporters" are always SO polite to people that don't happen to drink for the Junction Kool Aid.

He's just stating an opinion and until you or me or anyone else goes out there, then we have no way of knowing if it's true or not. But I know that after reading this thread, I'd kinda like to go check it out.

If you go the other way toward Matador, you'll also get some terrain. I can't speak to the dual-sport riding, but from our travels out Hwy. 70, that's the way things are. You climb the caprock around Matador. Notice on the terrain maps how you climb through 2000 feet before Matador, then up to 3000 feet not too far west of Matador. South of Matador is Roaring Springs, which really doesn't roar, but is actually a spring. Rather a nice wet spot in the high prairie.

Which 'Hwy 70"? If you look at the map, there are two that intersect in Matador. In fact, I took a photograph of that intersection with hwy signs pointing in all four directions to Hwy 70

Hwy 70 south from 287 is a fun drive/ride; it transects numerous small towns (and a few ghost towns) and county seats.

We used to have access to 10K acres near Seymour, and some of the ranch roads on that place would make seasoned Jeep'ers pucker a bit - more so when wet, when the best thing to do was to GET OUT of there as quickly as possible, unless you'd planned on staying awhile!

We spent a LOT of time on that place hunting ducks, dove, and quail. Beautiful country. I can't claim to have seen all of those 10K acres, either - it was a LOT of land to cover. Had I had my bike, instead of a Jeep, I could have covered a lot more of it. There was plenty of single-track from the cattle and horse trails, too. There were some ranch roads on that place I'd just look at and think, "Nope" and move on. I'd been up some hairy stuff in the Jeep (Clayton, OK area for one), but some of the climbs, major off-camber, ruts and rocks just looked other-worldly.

It's definitely a neat area, for sure. I wish we still had access to that place - we smoked a LOT of ducks out there in years past, and generally had a great time in the outdoors.

I started a thread here for a new mapbase of that area. Your favorite roads would be a great contribution to this. Feel free to contribute on the thread linked above.

I am also soliciting for a collaborator to help develop this mapbase. Any volunteers?
