Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
What are these "chains" you speak of Obi Wan? (says the Harley guy with belt drive).

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
I tried using WD-40 in a stuck brake cylinder. It made the O-ring swell up and lock up the piston. So instead of lubing the piston and freeing it from the caliper, I ended up trashing it. Carburetor cleaner causes swelling also. WD-40 has its uses, just not around nitril (rubber), swelling and stiffness may occur. Brake cleaner is safe to use on nitril parts.
So in the experiment don't forget to measure the ID and OD.

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
The guys on my 4x4 really like PB blaster for restoring O-rings. The say letting them soak in it for a day really brings them back to life.

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
I use WD40 on my chain before every ride or every 70-100 miles when commuting.
It keeps my chain clean of crap. |

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
PB Blaster is better for just about anything verses WD-40

I'd worry MORE about PB Blaster; it's by design a penetrating oil.

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
Chuck, from what I have found out/researched/been told/etc. WD-1 through WD-39 were not successful formulas... He "hit" on the 40th try... Hey, it's what I've been told.....

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
You forgot gun solvent... Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber works wonders on O-Ring chains... Extremely effective and even better than WD-40.

I didn't mean by using it on chains. I just meant using it on O-rings in general to restore them.

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
WD-40 WILL fix a BMW final drive. Just carry a can with you at all times.

Re: WD-40 is SAFE for o-ring chains
The BMW exploding final drive is a complete myth . . .
Say, is that BMW on fire?
