Looks like that attached file is just a tracklog anyway, not the route from back then. Also looks like the rider had a couple of detours...

Race? you need to change your wording as there was not a "Race" held.

this is a dual sport "RIDE" there are no winners for being first or last. it is not a competition or test of skill where there the outcome places someone as the best of the competition.

it is a recreational "cruise" around the beautiful country of the big bend area of texas....

why am I picking your use of wording? because opponents of this ride use this word openly to tie it to radical behavior.

rant over.. ride on

Re: Trail Riders of Houston 12th AMA National Dual Sport Ride -Terlingua, TX [Merged

Thanks to all of you that participated in the 2009 Burlingua Dual Sport Ride hosted by the Trail Riders of Houston, The American Motorcyclist Association and KTM. I haven't heard from anyone (that was there) that didn't enjoy the event this year so I'm assuming that you had a good time! That was our goal so we hope you did! Yes, we had a couple of landowner issues that popped up on us at the very last minute but we worked around them and pieced a course together that everyone could ride on Sunday.

I hope you enjoyed the food! My thanks goes out to Nereida Jurado, at Tivo's, for the great Chicken Fried Steak lunch on Saturday and "Kathy the Kosmic Kowgirl" for the excellent BBQ buffet on Sunday.

I'd like to thank the Brewster County Sheriff's Dept Deputies, Mr. Paul Rashott and Martin Willey for their traffic control support during our ride. A special "Thank You" goes out to Deputy Rashott for helping us find our lost rider late Saturday night! Thank You to DPS Officer, Corporal Renee Ybarra who provided us with traffic control support out on the Terlingua Ranch on Saturday and Thank you to the Terlingua Fire & EMS for your support. All of your assistance was invaluable to us.

I would also like to give major "Kudos" to my event crew - Ed Keeley, Lee Jordan, Randy Nemitz, Vaughn Ivey, Colin Hughes, Sam Stacy, Patrick Cummings, Sam Malignaggi (all the way from Melbourne, Australia), Shawn & Cody Osburn, our sign-up crew and especially to Chris Gilbert who provided us with legal advice and guidance in order for us to hold this Ride again this year! All of these folks donated numerous hours of their own time and their own money to put this event on. They are truly dedicated to the sport of recreational motorcycling!

Above all, "THANK YOU" to the residents and business folks that welcomed us back to Study Butte/Terlingua to hold our Ride once again this year. There are truly some FINE, hospitable people that live in the area! I hope all of you enjoyed their hospitality!

I'm very proud that all of you were "Street Legal" as we requested! On Sunday, Deputy Rashott reported to me that NO citations were written to any of our riders for any type of infractions during the two days of our event. That is outstanding! THANK YOU ALL! It makes it much easier for us to hold our Dual Sport Ride again next year!

Lastly, if things go the way we think they will, we'll look forward to seeing you again next fall. We are now working with some new (to us) landowners to make this ride even better than its ever been in the past!

We truly hope you enjoyed your "Burlingua" experience! I think Burl would have! Don't you?

On behalf of the Trail Riders of Houston, Thanks to all of You!

Are you giving any money back for canceling day 2 route?

The Day 2 Route was not canceled. We merely re-routed to steer away from one landowner's NEW private property sign in order to give the riders about 100 miles to ride on Sunday. No one asked for a refund. Everyone I've talked to had a great time! Thank you for your concerns though! Wish you could have been there to enjoy the ride with the rest of us!

didn't make it this year because of the politics.

But.......if it's a go for next year and the Captain get's permission of the land owners and things are better organized.

I'll be there.

Tried out the new-ish old DRZ on the trails...only lost a handful of parts.

When I think of you and Big Bend I just get visions of a GS coming at me in a giant cloud of dust... No doubt, the DRZ was a little more fun Now we have to get you to to Arkansas for some fun!

Can someone please explain the hostility and controversy connected with this ride? (Start on post #23 of that link)

There are at least two sides to this. I am very outspoken on one side of the debate. This thread would not be an appropriate discussion format at this time. Doing so here would devolve into the same banter that locked the other discussion thread on this topic. I have a Doc appt to be at in half an hour. When I return I will PM you a telephone number and present what I know. I would encourage you to converse with the organizers too. Hear from both sides.

Right, the purpose of this thread was to discuss the upcoming event details, etc. I had originally planned to lock it after the event, but since others also used it as a ride report (of sorts) , we left it open. There are other threads regarding the controversy itself, if you don't mind reading seemingly countless pages of rehashed arguments and dead horses

Since the event date has passed, the thread is being locked. Please post any ride reports in the Story Telling section of either the main part of the forums or in the DS section. Also, any such ride reports posted are NOT the place to revisit the issues that have been hashed out regarding the Terlingua Ranch roads. Any such posts will be removed. Thanks.
