WTB: Colt Python .357

This may sound like an odd request but I'm looking for a Colt Python .357 in good shape. Ideally, I'd like to find one in excellent shape with the box, etc. My father owned a Python before I was born and decided to sell it when I was came into the world because he and my mother needed the funds after I was born. He talks about that gun often and I know he misses it. Father's day is around the corner and I'd like to be able to fill the Python-shaped hole in his heart that he has had for 30 years now. If anyone has one or knows someone who does please PM me or respond. Thank you.

Re: WTB: Colt Python .357

You might want to try and get as many details about the one he owned if you are going to try to duplicate it. Barrel length, blue, nichol, stainless, grips etc. GL with your search, sounds like your dad has a good son.

Edit: You may already be aware, these where great guns IMHO one of, if not the slickest out of the box revolvers ever made. Just be ready to dig deep into the ol back pocket.

No joke those things are pricey...

The 586/686 smitty is a good cheaper option...

I'm miles from an expert, but I've heard the Pythons wear-out relatively fast. My Dad has one. Impressive looking gun.

The one my Father owned was blued and had a 4" barrel. I'm looking for one that has a 4" barrel, but if one became available in nickel or stainless that would be fine also. My father always talks about how perfect the action was, and how well balance the 4" barrel version was for him. I am aware of the current prices and have been following them for awhile. I'm not sure if I qualify as a good son, but the older I become the better I am able to see how much my parentís sacrificed for me when I was young.
I have looked on gunbroker, etc but was hoping to find someone on here before I was forced to bid and mail order one online.

There are plenty of gun forums you can post this on.

Texas Gun Talk
XD forum
Glock Talk
etc.

Try to keep this site to motorcycling please.

Re: WTB: Colt Python .357

Here is mine... probably one of the best looking revolver ever made. Pics does not give justice to the blued color. Other than a small scratch underneath the cylinder latch, this is perfect.
Took me a while to find one at the local gun show and they do not come cheap.

Whoa whoa whoa there slammr...

If you have been reading this forum for a while you would know that guns are a close second to motorcycles in popularity on this site and there is nothing in the TOS that requires all posts to be moto-related.

You might want to gauge the temperature of the water before you jump in with both feet in your mouth.

And Skeezix... good on you for what you are attempting to do.

True that! Plus anyone willing to post pics of a Python as purty as the one above is alright by me!

Yeah and kinda of sick of weeding thru that info on MC forums. I am gun owner, advocate and NRA member BTW. Just suggesting better place to solicit purchase/sale. No need to get bent out of shape.

I have one that I fired 28,000+ rounds through with only two tune-ups from the Colt factory. But I must admit most shots were .38 Special plinking loads.

I have owned 3 Pythons including the Hunter with scope...2 of the three suffered failures and had to be sent back to Colt, the hammer had a nylon bushing that can fail locking the hammer at half cock position. After the second time I switched to Smith and Wesson 686 I understand the sentimental aim here and the Python was very eye appealing

Too bad he posted in the want ads with "WTB: Colt Python .357" in the subject line...I had a good notion what I was getting into when I clicked on the topic - no weeding whatsoever needed here.

Best of luck, Python guy...I might run across one at a pawn shop (it happens) and will try to thing of you.

Don't apologize. You were in the right. Ignore the complainer.

Agreed, don't apologize. You are doing a good thing. Some guys just like to whine...

I bought a brand new 4" blued Python for my wife in 1976. She will keep that one forever. The fit and finish on it is better than any other gun I've ever handled.

Good luck with your search.

I am curious. There have been multitudes of firearms posted on this site over the past couple of years.

Why are you targeting this thread?

He's new here and probably didn't realize it. No big deal. He made a valid point about there being other places to list it, just didn't realize it was fine to sell guns here.

I'll be the one to point out the rules, if necessary.
