Bonnie banged up

glad you came out of it OK.

as for this - "If nothing happens to these people that don't carry insurance, then why should any of us carry it then? "

Just wait till she goes to pay the fine - it's steep and she will remember it.

About a year ago my then favorite cage was smashed by a young teenager who flew through a red light while chatting with her friend. Totaled my little escort wagon (I'm still mourning - it even had a luggage rack!).

Several folks stopped and gave me their names and contact info, telling me that they would testify if need be.

Constable shows up pretty quick. The girl that rammed me had no proof of insurance. She calls daddy (they live close by). Dear old dad shows up. He had JUST given his daughter the car she used as a weapon! He had no proof of insurance with him, either! The LEO would not let either one of them go. Momma had to drag herself to the scene with proof of insurance for all 3 of their vehicles before any of them were free to leave.

Of course, there was no indication that any of them were illegal or non-English speaking.

IF she even goes to pay the fine!?

The 3 kids were probably the determining factor. Calling CPS to pick up 3 kids while you cart mom to jail is a big hassle. Who knows how long officer would have to wait while a relative comes to get kids from scene. It's a crapshoot and you ended up on the losing end. Sorry.

Where I use to work, most people w/ no DL and No Ins DID get locked up even if it wasn't an accident and just a traffic stop.

Glad your reasonably ok.

even money she doesn't show up for court!

Last and only time I got a ticket for no insurance (cause I was stupid and left proof at home), I was told the state requires proof or there will be a ticket, but this was 5 years ago. I thought the state requires vehicals be towed and impounded (sp?) if there is no proof of insurance.
Does anyone know?

Seems like that ought to be a fix-it ticket if you can prove that you had insurance at the time of the ticket.

Waco Kid,
That might be possible with the police being able to phone or radio in for ones insurance info. Last time I checked, they still write a ticket for not being able to produce the proof....such was my case. BTW, judge let me off like I was wasting their time....

AFAIK, there are some municipalities that do the impound for no insurance, but only for a short enforcement campaigns for a short time. IIRC, Arlington and Dallas did it for short periods this past year, but I don't think it was implemented as a long-term deal.
