Friend of mine and I wandered down to the rodeo last night where I took my D500/70-200mm f/2.8 to see what I could capture from the stands. As mentioned in my pic-a-week thread, the lighting sucked from the get-go. Yet how much did it suck? I was curious myself.
The rodeo started at 8pm and I was facing West in the stands about five rows up. I tried to balance being lower to the dirt vs the number of people who would be walking across/in my field of view and five seemed appropriate. Sunset was 8:37pm. I also 'wanted' to keep shutter speeds high to freeze motion/dirt so that pretty much dictated wide-open aperture and high ISO. Lighting was what I believe to be large sodium vapor type as each large light was in a reflector and I kept getting the "FLICKER" warning in my viewfinder.
The following are a series of progressive shots throughout the evening and the increasing ISO/decreasing shutter speed. They have all been run through LR/CC with various adjustments to reduce the noise as well as other tweaks.
All shot with the Nikon D500 and Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 ED VR II
