Taking off Thursday for New Mexico and Colorado. I will be on my 2016 Africa Twin. Will be by myself, my 2 amigos had medical and family issues so they had to cancel.

Dirt and paved (50/50)I will figure it out as I go. I will also be camping most of the nights.

Thursday night - unknown.

Friday night - sugarite canyon park - Raton NM

Saturday -Saturday unknown. I will be stopping to visit some clients around the CO during the next week about 4 times.

I will post a pic or two as it happens, mabie it will help someone in their planning. This will be my photo album[emoji4]

Here is my spot tracker (goes live Thursday.

Wish I could go but stuck at work. Do you have specific roads that you are going to ride on this trip?

Enjoy, Kevin. Looking forward to your RR.

Great adventure.

Just curious, how much weight is that on the back of the bike? Do you notice it a lot back there?

Enjoy and be safe!

i know the givi top case weighs 22 lbs loaded, stuff I might need in a hurry on the trail or road. .

The Mosko Duffle, has top quilt and bottom quilt (bulky but light), camp shoes. mabie weight 10lbs??

Mounted to pillion rack, pelican 1050 box with tools and tire repair stuff, weighs about 6 lbs.

Left pannier: clothes, jetboil, other odds and ends, weighs about 18 lbs.

The red straps between the left pannier and duffel is my ice chest. It is usually full of ice cold refreshements :))))))))) I like to put it under the duffel, that way ice will usually last all day in 100 degree heat.

Right pannier: hammock, tarp, 4 litres of water, few other odds and ends, weighs about 20lbs.

On the road I dont feel it at all, on the trail and I am on the way to falling down I feel it :)

I've watched the mighty AT work over some pretty dadgum technical stuff on the cobdr and make Honda proud. The feller piloting was/is a fully capable off road rider. But, dang you're carrying a lot of weight. Some of those switchbacks are going to be ugly with that much top weight hanging out. Put that pig on a diet before you get too far along.

Turned north from Clayton nm, rode 115 miles to sugarite canyon sp. 70 miles of dirt, beautiful. I didn’t see one car in 115 miles.

Came into the park and smoke was present. I set up camp, wind changed direction and no more smoke all night! 16k acres in cimarron nm in a blaze.

Rode the beautiful hwy 12 from Trinidad to la veta. Took a side trip to bear lake

Campground just ok, I would stay at monument lake or blm land first.

Somewhat Rough dirt road about 6 miles off 12.

Blue lake was nicer, especially for hammocks.

You climb like 1500 feet from 12 to bear lake. Constant 90 degree switchbacks.

The dct on the at is a piece of art. Descending I may have hit my brake one time....on loose gravel, going downhill with constant switchbacks.

I had traction control off, gravel mode on. The slipper clutch allowed me to use the transmission rather than the brakes. The back tire never broke loose ONCE! Amazing. The dct twin is the perfect bike for me.

I had a guy at the gas station come up to me, what is an “Africa WIN?” Lol

Camping tonight at del Norte, the same camp on the river we camped at last year during the continental divide ride.

I am going to go have a nice supper at the brew house, and break out the fly rod. I think we can have a campfire here, so tonight might be a nice fire!

Btw, it is 72 degrees right now

Here is what my buddy in Houston texted me... [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

So after a year that campground is probably in better shape than when we stayed. It was a freshly graded new section last year. The river, though. That’s the ticket! If you pull trout out of that river, I will be there next week with my fly rod. Safe travels, Kevin.

Hey Rich,

A guy came up to me when I was fishing, he said they bite at the first gazebo on the water till noon. I will try that out in morning.

They poured a concrete sidewalk all the way around the place.

Water temp felt great when I waded out there

Kevin, oh man, I wish I was there with you dipping a line in that river! When this trip is done, I get dibs on your gps tracks. Safe travels.
