Mark those flowers are pretty, but on the news they say it is an evasive weed that is crowding out the blue bonnets and other low laying flowers, and they say it is almost impossible to control.:argh::tears:

What are they calling it Arnold?
I know grasses MUCH better than flowers.

Beautiful weather in Texas lately and I just can't get enough of the Vmax. Found my self heading out after work today and across State lines into Oklahoma :trust:

Nikoleta's first long ride. We saw Billie Joe Shaver in Luckenbach last Sat. and in the morning rode 16 through Kerrville and to Bandera to eat at one of my favorite Messican places. Pic was taken just after they closed.

Folks -

Been a big panic on my end trying to get the bike put back together before my bro showed up last Saturday after a pretty severe maintenance discovery. This is how it looked around midnight on Friday...
IMG2099-L.jpg

Thankfully I busted butt on it and got it put back together by Saturday afternoon, in time to go skiing on Sunday. Bonding in some 316SS 6mm Nylock nuts solved one of the issues...
IMG2100-L.jpg

We finally got out for some fun on Tuesday morning, temp starting out in the upper 30s lower 40s. Scrounged some gear up from Brian Price at Atomic Moto and another local dirt biker who runs dualsportalchemy.com (and who I'd never even met!) Dirt people are darned friendly!

My bro makes my 450 EXC look like a 250.
IMG2104Mod-L.jpg

Speaking of gear, it didn't take long to start shedding it once we hit the singletrack...
IMG2105Mod-L.jpg

Taking a little break, although I didn't know he was napping...
IMG2106-L.jpg

Pretty impressive along here...
IMG2108Mod2-L.jpg

And lots of fun!

This is the problem with spring time riding in the forest ;-)
IMG2112Mod2-L.jpg

No I didn't Graham Jarvis the thing.
IMG2113Mod-L.jpg

Little help here?
IMG2114Mod-L.jpg

All in all a darned good ride. We tried to push up the forest service roads to Tumalo Falls but started hitting a lot of snow, turned tail and ran for town.
IMG2115Mod2-L.jpg

Grabbed an excellent lunch at Brother Jon's and then hit the Tasting Room at Boneyard Beer for a yummy sampler... :trust:

Was able to ride from Thorndale to Lampasas today, took some familiar roads through Detmold, San Gabriel,
Davila, cut through Bartlett, Schwertner to Jarrell, Florence, and found some great country roads between Florence and Joppa and north to Lampasas, especially 224, 211,210, 200, 272, and 207 which heads north and becomes Lampasas cty. #4006. Also really enjoyed 208, which cuts off 207 and heads east to 183. Forgot how pretty 121,124, 126, 127 are north of Jonah, with the wheat fields just blowing in the breeze!!! Of course I forgot my camera.....so NONE of it really happened!!!
:lol2:

I rode around in circles on a Q-Link dual purpouse motorcycle, 200cc of thumper craziness. :-P

I had my camera, but never got pics, so it didn't happen either. Even though the bike was a KTM wannabe. :lol2:

I'll get some pics of the bike tomorrow though.

No doubt you've been down CR406 east of Val Verde and crossed over the Bryant Station Bridge. The few dirt roads I've ridden down on purpose have been because of old bridges.

That road is one that we normally tour on the Milam County gravel loop, I like that area a bunch!

My excuse to ride yesterday :lol2: was to revisit the New Corn Hill Catholic Church. 110 easy miles, mission accomplished! The late evening sun peeked out from behind Marble Falls's storm......sure was pretty over the corn and wheat fields!
:sun:

Afternoon friends,
Well I had to head to Lampasas to do business today, so I took some different routes there and back in the name of fun and all things motorcycle.
Pic 1: I found a series of roads east of Salado, 2843 to Cedar Valley to Stillman valley to High/Fire mountain road. These would be T2's or T3's on the Butler scale, and be careful on High/Fire Mountain road....there are a couple of downhill gravel slides that can catch one off guard!! This picture is from a water crossing over Wilson Branch on High Mountain road.
Pic 2: Wolfridge/ Burnet 220 is a fantastic high speed sweeping country road with nice scenery and some water crossings....and leads to 223 north of Oakalla, where this water crossing pic was shot.
Pic 3: After a gas and tea stop in Kempner, headed north on 2313 to Rock Church/ 3210...a fantastic road with many cattleguards, high caliche/limestone hills and bump gates....just a lovely road, indeed! I saw turkey, goats, deer, axis and Llama on this road. This picture is of one of the nicer looking hills, indicative of the entire area.
Pic 4: This is a photo of one of the bump gates in the area, I tried to describe one to John (Daytrader), but this photo will do it better!!
Pic 5: Catfish in the Lampasas River off of CR223, can you see him? Maybe a 2 pounder??
Nice day, got a few sprinkles on my way back through Andice, Georgetown, about 320 miles today!
:sun:

Always look at the map after Gravel Guy places a post. Thanks for describing your rides so well.
We should start calling this thread " gravel guys daily trips"

New Corn is a beautiful church, I'd sure like to see inside-but we were there on a Sunday and they were closed. Ha! Get it?

Mark, how are bump gates with a bike?

I've actually never seen one, but always asumed they swung up and away in an arc, kind of like the pivoting mailboxes that return to the original position after being whacked by a snowplow.

That one looks like it pivots flat.

Steve,
Pay close attention to both cables as they wrap around the top of the center pivot post. As you push the gate, it "lightly winds" the cable around the post and slightly lifts the gate, and gravity and the unwinding cable bring it back to the closed position. Best description I can give?
It's not that hard to go through, just get your timing right so the sucker doesn't come back and knock you over...:trust:

More question(s), when you (lightly) bump into it, how far does it rotate?

My guess is that it goes about 90 degrees, the returns home.
