I'm on the fence between these two gloves.

I hear the SP-1s fit small, is this true?

I have skinny wrists (6.5" around at the widest point), so having enough adjustment in the wrist closure (the smaller strap) is very important. Does anyone have experience with either of these in that sense as well?

Alright, nevermind on the Scarabs. They have neoprene between the fingers. I won't wear gloves that aren't all leather. Bad experiences.

So, that being said, I'm looking for some race-type gauntlet gloves with all leather construction and rigid knuckle protection. They should have little to no perforation so that I can wear them in cold weather too. Also, they must come in all black/gray. I'm not big on flashy gloves.

It should also be noted that I have rather skinny wrists, 6.5" around at the widest point, but wear a size Large glove. My current gauntlets (which are on their way out of here) don't have enough adjustment in the wrist strap, which means I can pull the gloves off my hands even with the strap as tight as it can go.

Someone help me buy gloves.

I think all Alpinestars SP gloves fit small. I wear an XXL in alpinestars gloves and xl in most other gloves. I bought some Helimot gloves. They are a made in the USA glove and cost a bit, but are very good quality. http://www.helimot.com Held seems pretty good quality as well. I think either of these gloves will be very good quality and last quite a while. I think http://www.newenough.com sells some closeout helds. I checked into some Motogp gloves and I liked the build quality of them, but I think the ones I looked at had some light perforation between the fingers. Nitro I think was teh model of the Motogp gloves. I am not real sold on Joe Rocket anymore. I have owned a few pairs and they didnt seem to last. Teknic makes some nice stuff. I think the Violators are pretty good and the chicane gloves are solid leather with no venting.

Thanks for the info Vaughn.

I took a look at the Teknic Violators (the newer version) and discovered that they have multiple areas that aren't leather, so they are out of the question; like I said, bad experiences.

I also learned that the SP-1s also fit tight enough so that using glove liners is very difficult. Combine that with the perforations in the fingers and it doesn't add up to be a good cold weather glove.

The Helimots, while nice, have no rigid knuckle protection, so therefore are also disqualified from my list. I like Held gloves, but they are far out of my price range.

I feel the same way as you about JR stuff, and I will not buy their products.

What I'm looking at now is the MotoGP Nitrous glove:

They seem like very nice gloves, and I think I can get them for cheaper than that, so they are in my price range. (I just realized that these were probably what you're talking about in your post). I didn't notice any perforations mentioned though.

Motoliberty has their own line of gloves that fit well and are reasonably priced. Bought my pop a pair a few years ago and he's still liking them. I think they were right around $100. Course if you can wait til the show here in FTW they'll likely have a booth setup and are pretty good about haggling a bit there.

Let us now what you get and how you like them.

Alright, I took the plunge and got the MotoGP gloves. I figured since I could get them for $88 shipped (instead of $120 shipped) they would actually be a good value. I'll post a review when they arrive.

Actually the lack of a rigid knuckle isnt as bad a thing as you might think. I know they are considered full race gloves, so Im sure they are designed to withstand quite a bit. :)
